Actually, that was a point brought up in said topic in Gaia--only 44% of people who watch hentai are single--the rest are couples, and there are just as many women interested in Hentai as there are men (what with yaoi and all...).

I think that manga style, regardless of the main subject, is something erotic. It is meant to  arouse people's hormones, since the girls look super beautiful, and the guys are drawn to be good looking too. Not just that, but the relation between characters is also something made to provoke a rection to the sexual side of people (like, the boy and the girl never get together, and you stay really glued to the story because, among other things, you want to see them together, just like a soap opera).
