Rants and crap aside, him calling that guy a douchebag with a completely straight face made my day. I love George Takei. He makes everything awesome.

In the name of keeping controversy alive, though:

lets (you americans) give mexicans jobs in the us
Can't and shouldn't. I have no problem with people of hispanic origin having jobs in the united states. Florida has a very large population of a number of subcultures and a lot of the people I met were nice enough chaps. But it's the illegal immigrants that are a problem. They get paid under the table and don't pay taxes. If you're going to be in this country, you gotta play by the rules.

Do I have to remind you how impossible it is for those people to get in your country legally?

Maybe impossible is too much of a strong word. Lets go with really ****ing hard instead. I'm no expert, and I'm no Mexican trying to get into the US, but I'm pretty sure that it ain't easy.

Also all the prejudice they suffer when they finally manage to enter (even if legally)?

Maybe I'm overreacting, I probably am, but its just that I take the whole "Imagine there's no country" thing a little more serious than I probably should.

Edit: so one of the things I said could be read really wrong, I'm talking to val on msn, she was like, mad, but I'm trying to express what I meant, once I find out a decent way of doing it and I stop being lazy I will edit this post as well

edit 2: nah, too lazy

Nah, I agree with you lucas. Countries are a pretty awful establishment. Nationalism is an evil thing in disguise.

The thing I like about what George said is that no one should ever wish death upon another human being. I've become more and more strongly non-violent in recent years. Violence of any kind leads to more violence. On that note, I know there are some who are more than gung-ho to wreak havoc on those that commit violence against them or others. You know, the "eye for an eye" mentality. People who believe have a point. On a broader related topic, some might think I'm suggesting, "Should America just stand by and let extremists kill, murder, and destroy anything American?" This goes along with, "if you're non-violent, are you suggesting we shouldn't enforce capital punishment on murderers?" The question they're really asking is, "What should we do in reponse to violence?" There is an answer to that, I just don't have it. So please don't throw it in my face.

As for human rights, I agree. Equal rights across the board and let people be who they are. And, in regards to illegals, I agree their are leechers, hard to deny, especially considering my current location. Lots of leechers around here. But there's some truth to an "enabling" government system that makes it too easy for people to become dependent on government aid and for companies to take advantage of illegal aliens. Becoming an American SHOULD be easier. You can counter any fear of new immigrants weighing the system down by making it harder for people to become dependent on government aid.

Gays are pretty cool guys. George came out of the closet a few years ago when he realised that he was old, Will Shatner was still popular and he wasn't getting any attention anymore.

But hey George is still a pretty cool guy. For this, and also his role in Red Alert 3.

Mostly americans. When I talk to people online (omegle is a great way of meeting this sort of people, youtube as well). They're so ignorant. They live in the best country ever, everyone else sucks balls. I was talking about this with MT the other day: go to Omegle, ask someone where they are from. Any place in the world, they will say their country. Americans will say their state. And they are not even the majority there. I am quite sure that they just assume that everyone in the world has to know what every single state in the US is, because its such an awesome country.

That's not an America-exclusive trait. Most Canadians will give you their province.

Don't get me wrong, I love America. I think it's got a lot going for it. But like a lot of people, I think it's got some things it could and should do better on. I know we disagree on those greatly. So we don't need to get into that.

Say what you wish, all Canadians I've met said "Canada", but the americans said the state.
I'm not even sure why that's true.
Probably just because it's so predominate.

Only ones who would probably name their province instead of "Canada" are people from Québec. Not only because most of us wished it was our Country, but also because we're quite different from the rest of Canada.
As for me, I'd rather say "Canada" than "Québec". First, because our Country is Canada, after all, and second, because I'm not too fond of my Nation, no...

But anyway, what the jizz, isn't it a YouTube thing?

Americans are very different on a state to state basis as well.
Washingtonians are hippies.
Unless they're hicks.

In any case, I don't see it as arrogance. On the internet, in any given English-speaking forum, the majority of members are going to be American (Charas is pretty eclectic, but by and large, this is the case). Americans may feel the need to differentiate themselves from one another by specifying the state.

Also, the continental US is a huge tract of land, especially in comparison to European countries. "I'm from America" starts to sound pretty vague when you could mean anywhere in the radius of a few thousand miles. It's not the same. You're oversimplifying things.

And "[They think] they live in the best country ever, everyone else sucks balls" is kind of a joke. Sure, some Americans think that, but I dare you to find a country anywhere near as self-deprecating as the US is. We criticize and make fun of ourselves constantly.

Perhaps you should start following our example. Now then, post a YouTube video or GTFO.
