This may be a stupid question, but how long is an average rm2k3 game suppose to last?

Well, if a game isnt at least 10-15 hours of gameplay, I don't really like it unless it tells a really good story or has extrordinary graphics.

This isn't a programming-related question, but for lack of a better place, I'll leave it.
As Sammich Boy said, it depends on how long the story is. Anywhere from 10 to 20 hours would be decent - more than that, and the game would have to be extraordinarily well-paced to keep a player's attention, and less than that, it feels too short. But there's no real standard.
