Drawing manga women...
« on: October 06, 2006, 03:58:04 PM »
Anyone has any tips or tutos on drawing manga women? Iīm starting to learn, but damn itīs hard. First cause the oughta be hot, obviously. There's no chubby manga girl. Second, the breasts always seem to be out of place (and in manga theyīre important...). Third, I canīt do eyes that make them look feminine...So far, my attempts got me only manda transexuals, and thatīs really disgusting.

(And my g/f is demanding that I draw her, and I donīt want her to think I see her as a she-male, blearg!)

Please help!

Okay.....I got some tips......Ill try to make some PNGs to help Illustrate.......

But my friend, as an artist, whith many a failed relationship.....

DONT EVER DRAW YOUR GIRLFRIEND WHEN THEY ASK YOU TO.

Tell her you dont feel right drawing her......

And then spend secret time drawing it.....Spring it as a suprise.

***********************************************

First, and most Obviously.....

Its all in the eyes..
The eyes and the rest of the head.

Anyone who can draw bart simpson can draw anime eyes....Its making them look right with the rest of the head......

Ive drawn some little reference pics....they are kindof crap, as I just whipped it up as I wrote this, but it helps with the guidelines.

First of all, the primary anatomical landmarks are the same in anime.

The inner corners of the eyes pretty much line up with the sides of the nostril,,,,The outer corners of the eye line up horizontally with the tops of where ears start. And the nostril lines up with the base of the earlobes.

After you get your facial features lightly layed out.....

Make dem big saucer eyes....with minimal detail.
And youre going to want to lay out your crazy kawasukajakiitomasumaranitike hair.

The rule of thum ive found, it two use 2 different line styles when approaching manga.....

Sharp and Jagged (as in hair, eyelashes)
And smoothy and curvey (Jawlines, etc.

Alot of anime artists chose not to go into much detail with lips and mouths. This is your call. Most peole do this because its quicker and easier to animate a low definition body part.

When applying color, make the detail in the nose a subtle shade, if not a slightly darker shade than the rest of the skin tone. You want to keep the attention on the eyes.

Colour everything in with basic, non highlighted colors to begin with.

When your basic colour scheme is layed out, start highlighting and shading other colours in. Dont over shad. Half of the style is its simplicity and subtlety in detail.

And If that helps at all, I can give some pointers on The rest of the body. But the head and body are two different techniques alltogether, Ive found

 Manga Tutorials
 Baka Neko

I usually use pics on a computer if I need extra help, I dunno why but pictures in books are pretty useless for me. -.-;;

Hey.. it's easy.. the best way to draw a girl:

Step one: find a girl for yourself XD just joking.... u alread have one.. a wife..

Well lets begin again...

Step one: find pictures of girls with pretty body and good poses.

Step two: draw the base of that poses

Step three: draw the bodys just looking  to the bases.

Step four: put the draw next of the picture and look good

Step five: if it dont look the same do again steps 2 3 and 4

Step six: if yet dont look the same, just punch ur face for five times.

Step seven: Do every steps again...

Step eight: Ask someone with skills to draw for u

Step nine: Post his draw and tell it is yours.

Step ten: Dont give up. One day u will be the one who will be asking to make the draw.

Well.. i hope that tutorial help u in ur training.. hauhauahau...
what?? u only dont know how make a girl's face?? well u dont look like one.. only if u look like a very ugly one... hahahah... that a way to help u.. do bags in her head... or make poses who only apears her back.. :D

As for the question about the draw of ur girlfriend... when she ask again tell her u do, but she need to be naked... she will refuse.. if dont.. u can manage to escape.. after she take her clothes off.... see u man..

Yes.

Naked women give us all the shivers.

That's why we are losers.

And by we and us, I mean everyone but me.

Calm down people, try to stick with the helping, and let the bashing aside, 'k?

This can get as good as the guitar thread...

When drawing the face, remember that women tend to have more smooth faces. Mens' features are more angular than womens, and are often more harshly defined. Also, when creating the lines, you should use lighter, and more gradual swells in your strokes.

The eyes tend to be more round (mens' tend to be more square or rectangular), and there will be eyelashes drawn in. Use thinner eyebrows for women. Also, for a younger woman you will want to draw in just the point of the noise rather than the entire bridge. Her mouth should be small, as well, her neck should be thinner. Draw in the lines at the collar bone to make her seem more effeminite.

The body should be done in an outline first (matching boxes, spheres and lines) to get the shape. Remember to make the sohulders narrower than a man's, and also remember her waist will taper more than a mans. Also, the legs should be slightly longer.

Since you're having trouble drawing the breasts, I'm going to assume you're drawing them too low (IE too big). This is going to sound sick, but seriously look at an actual girls' boobs. Where do they sit? Don't think of them as spheres or you will always go wrong. Think of the actual shape, not the exaggerated kind you're probably thinking of.

Also, when posing women, be aware that they stand and carry themselves differently from men. Look at magazines and women around you to see how they stand, sit etc. There is a distinct different. I hope this helped.
