"Let's go" nodded Liara. "Better than sitting here, anyway."

She felt refreshed and ready to takle challenges again. Her magical energy was also fully restored for the first time since the initial attack of the winged creatures- It improved her mood and stabilised her emotions as well as enabling her to become more effective in battles.
She got up and instinctively knew that the tunnel was not wide enough for her to spread her wings. Yes, the world above sounded good right now.

"Red eyes isn't a sign of better sight..." said Anyan: "I prefer to be able to see where I'm walking to... so, let's go up!"

He felt better now, after letting the group know about his status, and being honest. Also, Liara's cheerful voice was an inspiration for anyone listening to her. It was so much different than her being sad...

The time to return to the surface had come... and time to draw over that blank space in the map...

Abell nodded.
"it best if we go out. Abell not like to eat roots. Abell is half demon, and needs meat...tubers only half fill appetite...
But what of the bugbears? They not smart....But we will either have to sneak past them, or fight head on. If we fight, we may get spoils. They hoarde treasure in Den...If we get taken off guard sneaking through, they will have advantage over us..."

Abell Got into her sleeping bag on a straw pad, preparing for a nights sleep.

"Gnomes will all be gone in a few hours..."

Anyan nodded back. But something bugged him. He liked the idea of getting spoils... but he knew that many were lost after some tme.

Monty was dead and Shell was missing for weeks, presumed dead of course. If they headed a fight against the bugbears, there could be more casualties...

"It may be best to sneak... those beasts could be dangerous and we don't want to leave anyone behind... shall we head out? If what Abell says  is true, then this place will be dangerous afterall..." he said, as he held a bag on his shoulder, with his items inside.

Abell let out a tired yawn, and in a half asleep voice stated
"If you fear casualties, then we'd be best to travel in the early morning....We can cut their throats in their sleep. Begbears sleep like the dead and their hearing is Bad like....like One with bad hearing.
Filthy bugbears....Underdark predators...bullys...."

A few of the group looked Abells way with slight suprise

"Filthy vermin best to be killed. "

"Good." Ragnar thought.

"Ok, people, in my experience it's bad to awake a predator. But it's worst if it wakes and finds you on its lair." Ragnar said. "we should look to their numbers, the less they are, the better chance we have of ambushing them succesfully. My advice is to keep our blades ready."

Alziel nodded, and remembered that he still had Leyland's hutning knife tucked into his jacket. He drew it with a flourish, marvelling at the work Leyland had put into sharpening it. It was a sizeable knife; perfect for the close range work they'd have to do down here. He didn't want to waste his remaining arrows.

"Agreed", he said, making a falsely heroic pose. "Let's go".

The rest of the group stared at Alziel and nodded. They were heading up afterall, but they had to pass through the bugbears first.

It was the afternoon, and Abell had said it was better to travel at the early morning, but they needed to leave at that moment, the gnomes had gone very uneasy.

"So Abell... which way?" said Anyan. He wanted to keep going as fast as possible, he felt that danger was getting closer.

OOC: Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that everyone has to go through the bugbear lair in order to get outside.

BIC: Liara sighed. "What's the point of this ambush, Alziel? We can't carry treasure anyway. Our bags are full of food and water."

OCC: Ye were right Moose, my mistake. Edited already! :p

BIC:

Anyan's question was interrupted by Liara. She had a point there...

"Maybe... we can carry light things along." said Anyan. "Besides, ambushing them first will take them out before they become a fret to us. Right?"

"I suppose so" she mused.

The tunnel went deeper before it would go upwards, giving the illusion that the party was getting themselves further lost. Liara's magical lights and a few flares lit the path, but never truly penetrated the inky darkness just steps ahead- and a musty smell was present, a constant reminder that much the underground was disused and could be hiding secrets.

Abell, though, was a constant; she always knew the way and Liara, although sensing a pain that Abell bore, grew quietly appreciative of her guidance. She was the only thing between them and weeks of being lost in this oppressive place.

Alziel shook his heas as he walked. He had had enough of the dull, musty caverns that never seemed to end. He longed to get outside and to the surface where he could breath freely and see where he was going. These caverns dd not suit him. He needed air and sunlight.

He kept a tight grip on the hunting knife just in case. The caverns had widened, and although he doubted that they would be attacked down here, he'd seen enough ambushes to know to be wary.

"This tunnel doesn't end", he muttered to himself.

Saine came up level with him. "These gnomes only have short legs, so I have no idea how they manage to walk the length of these tunnels".

Alziel laughed as Saine picked up his pace and moved ahead. Certainly, there was a limited level of trust between the two of them, but Alziel had to admit he liked Saine's style.

Anyan kept walking behind the group, on the back. He was a bit tired, but still, he would walk anyway.

The tunnels didn't seem to end, and the group was getting nervous about it.

"Darn it..." he thought.

The dark tunnels made his eyes uncomfortable, but Liara would make her light spells time after time, and Anyan appreciated it.

Ragnar kept walking at the middle of the group, behind Liara. The old man would check the frog on his pocket often.

Also, Saine and Alziel were on the front, behind Abell who guided the group through the dark.

"When will we reach the bugbears...?" asked Anyan to himself. "Or will the bugbears reach us first...?"

Shell picked himself out of the mud and stumbled forward another step, his matted, filthy hair now falling over two pearly white eyes. His breath came to him in ragged gasps, but he raced through the forest nonetheless, tearing after a target he only vaguely remembered.

The skies swirled grey like a veil of smoke over the evening, and the howls of beasts pierced the overworld.

Ragnar walked, with his blades prepared. The tunnel seemed to go on forever, and the darkness was thick.

Even though Ragnar had a good sight in darkness, he had troubles seeing ahead.

"Mmmm... I'd better use my ears. They're far better than my old eyes" Ragnar thought.

In that moment, Abell told the group to stop, and she started to talk in a low voice with Saine and Alziel.
"What's going on?" Liara said in a low voice.

"Shhh" Ragnar said in a lower tone while taking a finger to his mouth. "I couldn't see anything, but I heard a noise. I bet she heard it too. Don't worry, it may be nothing."

In that moment, Abell gave them a sign, and the group continued moving forward.

"False alarm, probably....." Ragnar whispered to Liara.
Liara nodded and kept walking.
