Experimental game
« on: November 13, 2006, 10:19:06 PM »
My game is something I grabbed a bunch of resources for and uploaded. Then I started making the maps.

http://rapidshare.com/files/3245541/Experimental.zip
Version: RPG maker 2k3
Size: 2,600 KB
Progress: Very small, I hope it could be bigger.

The Problem: No storyline or direction. It only has dungeons. And I DO NOT LIKE Random Dungeon Generator. It will make sense if you go to the "Zombie Labyrinth" map.

Gameplay: 1. Level up Kaltros to level 2.
                  2. Go to nearby structures to find more party members.
Hint: Kaltros has to be leveled up before getting more characters. Save often in his 1st level. I also wanted this rpg to be somewhat "realistic". This means animal monsters will not drop gold,  but human ones will. This project has nothing new or interesting. I have only had rpgmaker for 4 days. You will see that as the events get more complicated as the plot goes on.
                  3. Go into a tower and encounter a Harem.
                  4. Final: Enter Snow Castle after finding the event switch
in the south east of the map.
                 5. End.

What I am looking for: A way to incorporate a storyline.
                                    More dungeons.

What I am working on: The folder labeled 2nd Saga.

Gameplay time so far: 1-2 hours.
15 minutes getting to level 2.
                                   15 minutes finding other characters.
15 minutes finding the "extra" guy.
                                   15 minutes clearing the tower.
5 minutes finding the switch(in a graveyard structure).
                                   10 minutes in Snow Tower.

You should include RTP, eh. Some things I noticed.

"Boss:Kosuke" was imported incorrectly, causing him to have a giant pink background in battle.
"Aspiring Dancer" enemy is missing the bottom halves of her legs.
You have enemies from Naruto. They were imported incorrectly too.
Puppet imported incorrectly.
Random and erratic map design.
Misuse of some RTP tiles.
Bland world maps, such as incredibly huge stretches of flat grass.
Graphics of different styles.

You should really play through your game and fix all the problems you see before releasing it to the public.

I agree. Even if it IS an experimental game. Why make a sloppy experiment?

EDIT: Also, welcome to the forums.

Oh, the aspiring dancer is supposed to be cut off at the knees. Kinda like in Phantasy Star. But, I can always use something else.

I just have different people( ex. Vincent), because I am a fan. So, I will try to have something more uniform next time.

Thanks for the review.

Ok, I played through a little and added more terrain features.

I noticed it was pretty hard to get new characters compared to going through dungeons.  (ex. To get the vincent character , scorpions with low attack, but a high potential for poisoning are pretty tough to beat.)

I'm going to look for tutorials for importing files.
