RTP Battlers or Charset Battlers
« on: December 05, 2006, 02:06:10 AM »
By Charset battlers i mean like the ones from Final Fantasy 6 (my numbers may be screwed up... it was the one with Terra) I was just wondering which you prefer because spriting with RTP styled is alot harder...

I would prefer chara sets.  Though in the short run it is more work to make the extra animations for battle, it pays off in the long run because your options are more flexible since there are way more character sets than battle character sets.  Of course my opinion is slanted simply because I hate the way the rtp stlye battle chars look in rm2k3.

Charasets, definately

Charasets have much less specific flavor than the RTP battle characters. The RTP ones are generally kinda cute and/or whimsical, meaning that they might work for a game like La Pucelle or FF9, adventure with a certain irreverent air to them.

Charasets generally don't carry as much flavor. They are much less detailed but are much easier to edit and don't need to match the flavor for your game as well. They tend to complement the monsters much more too, giving you much more versatility in boss size and appearance.

I also like the touch of realism inherent in the same character being used in both overworld and battle.

My boards. Some really good RPing here.

Save one more resource as JPEG or GIF and I'll club whomever does it with a baby seal.
