I'm Done.
« on: June 07, 2007, 04:13:09 PM »
As many of you know, I recently just put out many of my personal resources for public use. I've decided to do this because I'm pretty much finished with rpg maker 2003.

However, I would like to share what I was working on with you guys.

I was still working on Metal Tears, redoing the battle systems and defining the plot as my skills with the maker increased. I almost finished the battle system and intro when I began to get bored with the maker.

Anyways, here is the link to the system Metal Tears would've had. It will only take about 2-5 minutes to play, so please give it a try. The file size is pretty small as well, and it only took me 15 seconds to upload on cable internet.

http://www.sharebigfile.com/file/183605/Final-Demo-Of-Metal-Tears-rar.html

The commands can be a bit tricky... so here's how they work:
Esc - Gun
Shift -  Boomerang (Max of 2 at a time)
Enter - Spear Jab
Hold Enter - Spear Swing
Direction + Enter - Spear Flare
#2 - Magic Projectile or Magic Sword

Movement is 8 Directional.
If you are hit by an enemy magic attack, you will be confused. Left will become right and such.

Known Bugs:
Firing the gun will hurt the knight regardless of where you point it or where you stand. It will not hurt any other monster.
The Second Boomerrang can't hit things.
The Spear can't hit things.
Monsters can move through objects.
Magic Sword does nothing.
One enemy can't die, all others can be damaged by boomerrangs and magic.
The game may lack depending on computer specs. If so, play around with another RPG Maker game for a couple minutes, then go back to mine. That seems to always work.

That should be all you need to know. I could post screens, but they'd all be of the same map.

Please give this a try. It's the last of my hard work, and I'd like it to be shared.

I'd rather you continue working, on one of your smaller games and not this, but it's your decision. The fact that you've created a working 8-way movement, non-tile based movement system alone deserves applause. I'd rather see your storytelling abilities as you haven't really shown us. Oh well.

Will you continue on RMXP? Or will you stop using RM all together?

I think I'm pretty much done.

Thanks for trying it out though. I was thinking you might not be able to because of the winrar thing, but I'm glad it worked. Saves us both some effort lol.

It's impressive, but you spent WAAAAAAAAAAY too much time on perfecting the system, man. Just write a story and have fun with it. If you're going to make a Zelda clone, then use Game Maker; it's simpler for anything like that. If you're going to make a quick and fun RPG, use RM2k.

^ I agree with Bluhman, rpgmaker is not very flexible with that sort of stuff. A shame to hear you're quiting, but hey it's your life. I'm trying it out now...

Game Maker is cool and all, but not for long.  You'll realize that eventually you can only do the good stuff with scripting, and by then you may have well started learning an actual programming language.

Seriously, learn the real stuff.  It's a nice feeling of working from the ground up, compared to RPG Maker where you practically have to find ways around the current things in there.

Meiscool, you've made some really interesting things, and I'm eager to try this (*is downloading currently*).  Good luck with whatever you end up doing afterwards!

EDIT: Okay, I tried your game, but it lagged a fair bit on my horrible little computer, oh well.  I looked at the game though, and I can see the amount of work you've put in this.  I will tell you though, this kind of thing would indeed be easier on Game Maker, and considerably easier using an actual programming language, you'd just have to learn it.

By the way, Kara's skill "Phase" (the one with the huge sword) looks awesome.  Did you make these things, or get them from somewhere else?

Just don't leave the forum!  That would make us sad... :(

Well,  I have noticed a big change in your personality since I've joined.  And it hasn't been a complete year yet.  Everyone here is sad you're not working with RM anymore...  No more screens in the Sreenshot Central Thread...

When I saw this topic, I almost thought it was a goodbye topic!  I was like, NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully you'll stay here for much longer.

Thanks everyone who tried this so far. Makes me happy :D

Doubtful that I will go on to use a more powerful gaming engine. I get bored with them to easily.  Aside from that, I'm not on the computer that much lately. I don't post nearly as much as I used to.

Thankyou.

As to making them: The sprite base is made by some Japanese dude. I recolored it and made the action poses all myself. The Phaseblade poses are mine, but the sword isn't.

That's a pretty good ABS you've got there actually. I imagine it must've been a pain in the *** to code.

A shame you're quitting, I think this had great potential.
