Bliss, in a tiny shiny handheld pink package.... with a stylus
« on: June 08, 2007, 12:56:16 AM »
No, this isn't a friend code thing. I have no wi-fi.
I just wanted to publicly rejoice. Today, from my normally useless brother, I received a DS. Regrettably, it is pink. Thankfully, I can change that with stickers and such. He also gave me his Phoenix Wright game, which I love. However, I own two games currently: the Phoenix Wright game and Fire Emblem for the advance. Any recommendations, especially for good rpgs that aren't cheap Final Fantasy ports? So very sick of Final Fantasy. Also, are there any Castlevania games out for the DS? Is Aria of Sorrow still available anywhere? Is that even the right name, or is it some other amalgamation of angsty nouns?

Dawn of Sorrow is amazing, and a Castlevania game to boot! It's similar to Aria of Sorrow but the variety of weapons and enemies makes it sufficiently different so that nothing feels like "The same old thing," although that's just me and my "I love every Castlevania game with the exception of the 3d ones" speaking.

I have, unfortunately, not been able to get my hands on Portrait of Ruin yet, but that's supposed to be up to quality as well.

I haven't played a lot of DS though, so I can't help you with the RPG request.

Which one?

I'm not sure what to recommend, but I do have both ENG GBA Fire Emblem games, as well as Megaman Battle Network 4 Red Sun, and Megaman Battle Network 5 Doubleteam DS, which has both versions of number 5.

I hear Lunar Knights is a good RPG for the DS, but I've never played it so that's just hearsay.

**** your ****.

I'd suggest Portrait of Ruin, Mario Kart DS, Yoshi's Island DS, Super Princess Peach, New Super Mario Brothers, Metroid Prime: Hunters, Kirby: Canvas Curse, Kirby: Squeaq Squad, Tetris DS (mail it to me if you find it), Pokémon Diamond or Pearl, Final Fantasy III, and a few others I don't have yet.

Etrian Odyssey is a great RPG.  It's pretty basic, like Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest. It's also a hard game, so if you want something with difficulty, you'll probably like it. Story is kind of bleh, though.

Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time is a good game too. But I'm not sure how it would be if you haven't played the first game. It's also a short game. :/

Lunar: Dragon Song is a crappy RPG. The way you earn money is done poorly, you lose HP when you run, you can't choose which enemy to attack in battle... pah.

And yeah, Portrait of Ruin is great; so is Dawn of Sorrow. I like Dawn of Sorrow better though.

Metroid Prime: Hunters is alright. I was never really into FPSs though, so if you like them, you'll probably like it more than I did.

Wario Ware: Touched is addicting as hell. I played that game for a long, long time before I pulled myself away. :)

LostMagic is okay, it's a real-time strategy RPG. It's got some difficulty in it, which is pretty nice. Some bosses beat my *** easily, and I'm pretty sure I only beat the final boss by pure luck after 10 or so tries. :p There's a time limit in each battle, but I think time only ran out for me on one certain tough battle. The game gets a bit bland after a while though.

I had lots of fun with Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime. You fight tank battles after collecting ammo to fill your tank with, maybe upgrading your tank, and recruiting/choosing teammates. But it's a very easy game unfortunately.

New Super Mario Bros. is fun, but short. Short short short.

Mario Kart last me for quite a while, what with all the stuff to unlock.

Meh, I played my brother's copy og Diamond for a while. It gives me migraines, so it's a no-go. *pulls out Red and Blue* But I'm all set in the Pokemon department.
I'm gonna get a job at DQ, so affording some of these things won't just be left to "Mommy give me money! Wah!", which is what happens when you're not allowed to get a job over the school year.
Is this FFIII as in VI, cuz I'm playing that already elsewhere. Don't want to start over. Bah.
My brother has Mario Kart, so we play two player often. *grin* I still have my N64 copy, so I'm not keen on a smaller screen and weird graphics.
I take it I'll have to attack Game Universe (the store with all the rare games that wants me to pay like $60 for FFVII and keeps trying to make me, despite the fact that I own a copy) for Aria of Sorrow...... totally not worth it. I'll find Portrait or sommat elsewhere. Especially since going into GU always means atching me get upset about their constant lack of Tales of Destiny. Damn them.'
Oh, and my FE cart just says "Fire Emblem". It's the one with Eliwood, Lyn, and Hector as your main three.

It´s FFIII as in the third game in Japan, the one the rest of the world never got.  The one with four heroes a princess and all the Final Fantasy clichés.
And the Fire Emblem game is the seventh, Fire Emblem Rekka nu ka or something, because it was the first fire emblem released outside Japan it never got the title that means sacred sword or something.

And I´ve heard some good stuff about Children of Mana, Metroid and of course the Kirby. You  might want to check them out.

And just so you know, I would kill for a Pokemon Dia/Pea right now, it´s getting closer and closer to our yearly caravan vacation and I really need something to entertain myself with, Pokemon got loads of extra contents and stuff to do... Perfect for wasting time with.
Another note, we get the two of them in stores the 27th July.
How hard can it be? There is no difference between the American and Europian DS is it?

You hate everything I love and love everything I hate, so I have no real suggestions.

All I have is Final Fantasy III (as mentioned above ^), and now New Super Mario Bros.

I'm mostle waiting for FFXII: Revenant Wings, FFTA2: The Sealed Grimore, and ASH: Archaeic Sealed Heat. I don't really play classic RPGs. All I seem to play is Final Fantasy. I also wanna check out Mistwalker since they seem to be stealing EVERY GOOD PRODUCER FROM FINAL FANTASY. The've even stolen my Matsuno.  :(

Isn't the new XII for the PSP? Meh. If Square can't get spinoffs of decent games right (VII compendium, X-2, Chrono Cross [in my humble but right opinion]), how are they gonna pull off a spinoff of a not-so-stellar-game like XII?
Also, thank you all for not saying "OMG go get Chain of Memories for the Advance it r0><0rs!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!"
Not that I hate KH or anything.

From what I know, The PSP Game your are talking about is Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War. It is a remake of Final Fantasy Tactics for the Playstation. It will feature a re-translation by Alexander O. Smith (Final Fantasy 9, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy 12), a slightly enhanced musical score, new CGI Cutscenes with good voice acting, and cameo appearances from Cloud, Baltier, and this new character Lando/Lanso from Tactics Advance 2.

The DS games are Revanant Wings, and The Sealed Grimore. RV is a real-time strategy game that uses FF12's Gambit sytsem. It takes place after 12 when Vaan becomes a pirate. Tactics Advance 2 is a sequal to Tactics Advance.

For the record, I loved 12, 10-2, 9, 7, 1-6, and Tactics. I'm also a Matsuno fanboy in addition to Final Fantasy. I thought Kingdom Hearts 1 was a masterpiece, CoM was great, and that 2 was cool but dissapointing. I also have a hate for FF8, FF10, and _____of_____. :P

It's a good thing differing opinions don't mean I have to hate you.
Otherwise I'd be forced to do something terrible...... like take away your vanilla coke and peanut butter cookies.
