Like how in Tales of the Abyss there's the guy that looks like zelos.

Than again, FF has this trend with blondes.

Yea, the main character, Luke and another character Asch look almost identical to Zelos... but it's still a good game

And KM, Tales of Legendia is good, but if you're expecting another Symphonia, don't get it. It's a total let down from the previous game. Abyss is much better...

I'm not going to get into an argument over the innovativeness of FFVI. That would be dumb. But the whole trusted advisor/sibling/what have you deciding "Screw this, I'm gonna take the goods for myself, dang it"  isn't uncommon at all, especially in novels. Your list there seems more oriented with sword and sorcery for the most part, dabbling in fairy tale type fantasy, but doesn't cover much of your contemporary fantasy.
I pulled out a few examples from my foggy brain of the trusty advisor/sibling/whatever going nutty, many probably after FFVI, because I'm lazy like that. I'm sure if I thought harder I could think of some less recent examples that aren't Disney.... o.o. And yes, I'm stretching:
-Charmed Life, by Diana Wynne Jones
-The 9 Lives of Christopher Chant, by Diana Wynne Jones
-Shade's Children, by Garth Nix
-Aladdin (Disney)
-The Lion King (Disney)

That's, uh, five. *shrug*
Suffice to say, if you didn't know Kefka was bloody crazy the first time you saw him, you are really dumb. *sigh*

On Tales..... any recs on the newer games? I'm doing anything I can to keep away from my brother and sister, and given the horridness of my neighborhood (apparently we have about 7 rapists on my street, so I'm not allowed outside alone.... *dies*), that basically means play video games, look for a job, and try hard not to commit any felonies.
