Well I suppose there is always the underlying reference that quite often in the media when a character has glasses, you never see their eyes, to the extent it becomes a joke that when their glasses are off, you usually see the back of their head while other characters look in awe, or something blocks the vision. Professor Farnsworth is an example of this.

And yet, here it is, religious person takes off his glasses and he has eyes like everybody else.
