the irony stems from the character that has fairly recently been revealed to have some sort of mysterious special forces type of job is reading a book about a dystopian future, that has anarchistic undertones.

There was definitely a punchline in there. It's subtle, but there.

Also, having read through all of your comics, I think that Evil Ned is the best character. I demand a spinoff!
