Prpl_mage, I posted a link to a video of what a marching show looks like in my first post if you want to know what it is.

Also, you can go to this wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marching_Band

Many High School Marching Bands in my area play arrangements of soundtracks from hit movies (Harry Potter, King Kong, The Incredibles, and some others)

Oh... Kinda what I thought. And you guys, are a part of those bands?
I donno, no one would ever want to join one of those back in Sweden I bet... Not trying to insult the entire thing or so, just that no one would feel forced or up to the thing.
We're not that patriotic or something, just a land of free thoughts really. We take the easy way around.

Our show is "The Machines" From GPG Music Publications.
It kicks *** :D
You can listen to it at gpgmusic.com

BTW, what do your uniforms look like?
My avatar is a small example. (SAXES!)
We wear a cowboy hat with a fold on the right along with a plume.
We also have a baldric w/ silver sequins on the inside.
We use Drillmasters for our shoes.
And the gauntlets/gloves combo, of course ^__^

We used Drill Masters for the past few years, but, we have a new director this season, so we have different shoes this year.

I'll find a picture of us...

Found one of us in Florida.

I'm a clarinet player in Marching Band, but for Concert Band I play Oboe.

Listening to the show.  Its sounds really cool.  Wow...  it just got past the first hit.  The melodic lines in this are amazing.  This is much cooler sounding than our show.

Ugh.  Our band had its worst practice ever on Thursday.  We got to a point in the second movement where its played as swing.  Swing.  And... we fell apart.  And of course,  It features the Sax's Flutes, and Clarinets quite a bit in that part.  Ugh.  How you people ever had practices so bad that your teacher kind of went "omg.  What the hell are we going to do..." (not exactly, but had that kind of idea.)?

We only have 3 Clarinets* and 4 Saxes in our Band, we call ourselves the Saxinet section (I came up with it!  w00t!)

* (Yet we are the loudest ones in the Winds [includes the 7 flutes, 10 trumpets, 7 Saxinets, 2 tubas, tenor sax, 2 trombones, and 2 baritones])

Ha.  I laugh at them.

ALSO:  Saw this on Myspace:

Just want to let everyone know that this subject frustrated me for years until I finally realized that Marching Band isn't a sport for a reason. Because it is WAY beyond sports. ...ITS LIFE!

Really hate how people consider people in the band to be geeks! Being in marching band is harder than any one would imagine. We aren't just walking around the field playing an instrument! We practice for hours in 90+ degree heat, practice our music until our lips are numb, and march SO MUCH that it isn't even funny! PEOPLE IN THE BAND ARE ATHLETES...It requires endurance....lots of it. You have to be dedicated to deal with practicing like crazy, standing in the sun FOREVER, and getting yelled at by your band director. When we go to a competition it isn't just so we can go out on the field, play some songs, get off the field and watch the other bands! We go to competitions to beat the crap outta other bands. THAT'S WHY WE PRACTICE SO MUCH! We work just as hard (Some more so) as the football team and cheerleaders. So next time you go to a football game, instead of just getting up at halftime to get something from the consession stand, stay and watch the bands. And clap. And cheer. Think of everything we do to make the show perfect.

>>>Oh, I would like to add something here, it isn't just the heat we have to deal with, sometimes we even march in ice and snow!<<<(signed: JOHN BARTON)
>>>Blizzard performances ROCK! (Joe Boboige)<<<

IF YOU ARE/WERE IN A MARCHING BAND, PUT YOUR NAME AND THE INSTRUMENT YOU PLAY AT THE BOTTOM. REPOST WITH THE SUBJECT "READ IF YOU KNOW ANYONE IN A MARCHING BAND".

*Kicks*

So, our first competition is this weekend.  We have made it to 11 pages in our Finale.  Our Entire Drill has 72 sets, we are at like 65.

Our Finale is tough.  Its at 180 towards the end, and the woodwinds have another 16th nore run.  Only... for me its:
G
F
Eb
D

and then it goes into a melody... Damn trumpets... you can't hear the melody(Clarinets/Flutes/Saxes) over them.  Gr....

We worked really hard the past few weeks to get ready for this upcoming competition.  How are your Marching Bands doing?

We finished the first movement and the transition sets (42 not including subsets) on Monday and worked on our field entry Tuesday. Tomorrow we start on the second movement.
This is going to be the greatest show ever! Our first competition is at the end of October (20th)
We're taking the first movement 8 clicks under tempo, but the third movement will be at tempo (180). Second movement is only around 12 sets long. Tempo's only 100 BPM. It'll be the brasses time to rest (Lord knows they'll need it, I'm out of breath halfway through the 1st movement @_@).

I've signed that list.
Twice.
In a row.
XD
I'm not on that one, though :)

Our First Compition was on Saturday.

...We got a 71.5 or something.

And the Band we are trying to beat got... 78.5 or somemat.  Yeah....

We placed second in the Comp. anyway.  That band is cuirrently Second in all of "Tournament of Bands" in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and such.

We were all like... Sh*t.

In drill, we are at Set 65.  In the Finale.  I think 65.  But the entire show is like 72 or something like that.

We got to our first competition last Saturday!

We had a completely new judging system which only made it harder :P
We got 5th place overall which wasn't that bad. We could have done better, but it was still pretty good. All the scores were really tight, the winning band was only 8 points ahead of us. We have Showcase (the toughest in LA) next weekend in Lafayette. It'll be tough.

I hope to get a video up of us sometime soon!
We have around 100 charts if you include the subests (86 w/o them)

Our 2007 Show!

If I can get a better vid this weekend I will
