anyone know their way around this stupid thing? i wanna make some stuff on it, but even the begginer mode makes no sense to me. so, anyone familiar with it? particularly a character select screen for a fighting game (also needs other menus, fighters, and such) and a basic mario game. either one, i don't know how to create.

cuz you see, i saw an SSB game online, it was flash, and i was thinking that i could make my own version, and i was reminded of what the SSBB forum guys prolly want: a game with tons of characters. some where against it it seemed, but i was interested in making a comp one (i don't own GC or Wii) even though the online one was great, it had some glitches. i plan to design my own that isn't actually as much llike SSB as that one was. if anyone has suggestions/sprite sheets for characters, post them here. i might even make people here into characters if they want and they can find a sheet.

Im going to kick this here old topic rather than start a new one EXACTLY LIKE IT

before i used rpg maker i tried to learn gamemaker. i forget what i lernd to...but i remember making a pacman type rpg sort of game.

That was frickin years ago.

Ive recently been toying with the idea of trying to learn it again. ive since educated myself a bit in rpg making, and a touch of ruby...

i figured "it will probably be easier to learn now" and by the looks of it, i have far less limitations than rpgmakers...however, by these same looks it looks to be a bit less dummied up than rpgmakers.

Does anyone here know their waty around it?

If not im going to learn. if anyone else feels like sharing this learning experience, then by all means, join in.

Id like to make a platform RPG...id like to have the freedom to have an exe game with multibple battle systems and more programming controll without having to modify other peoples scripts to hopefully get the effect i want.

I have a feeling im going to have troubles.

is this going to be easier to learn now that i know rpg maker fairly well?

Gamemaker is easy once you know how (okay.. not EASY.... mediumly hard)...
Get  a tutorial or sample game and learn from there.

I use Gm. Yup. I'm making an MMO for fun right now, and I decided to come back to this site to find my backed up sprites only to find out my account requires activation. Yup. Oh well. I can find them somewhere.

Wow...

Well, I have nothing like that, but my current game project is in Gamemaker. I created a thread for it with a demo that went largely unnoticed (probably due to lack of screens, which no one would really understand without playing it), but I think it demonstrates that I know a bit about GM. I agree with dudewheresmymount that you should get a tutorial. They help a LOT, especially for platformers, which I used to try to make a few years back. Personally, I think if you're going to take on a whole project by yourself and actually attempt to finish it, you should make it something simple. Otherwise, help is important.  I could help you with some things, but I'm pretty busy, so probably not a lot.

The hardest part about a platformer is jumping, but I'm sure you could find a tutorial somewhere. Otherwise, it all pretty much comes down to variables, boolean values and conditions.
