Actually, it's Anti-Lock Breaking System. You know, it stops the breaks from locking up.

ACTIVE BATTLE SYSTEM.

It means that instead of choosing everyone's actions at the beginning of each turn, each person has their own time meter that builds until they can act. If you've ever played the first Final Fantasy, that is NOT an ABS, but the later Final Fantasy games are, like FF7.
