Uhh...I gotta ask a favor, if it doesn't really take anyone's time.

My friend's going to the U.S. come december, and I want to give her money to get me a laptop. I'd like to ask someone if he can either look for some prices for me or tell me a link of good shops (preferably one that you can encounter all over the U.S., cause I'm not certain where is she going).

The specs? Well, I want the best you can get with around U$1200.

Thanks in advace :D

I'm not into computer things. DragonBlaze is. Damn you.

Just go to a large electrical store - NOT a place that only does computers, somewhere that sells all kinds of electricals. You wouldn't think so, but they tend to have pretty good deals on computers. I got my laptop from Comet (A big electrical chain over here) and it's been great so far. Got it for a good price too.

Just don't get anything made by Apple. You want a computer, not something that resembles a computer.

I just baught a laptop :D It was from ebay though and it didn't work, but it was a new computer and covered under hp's warrenty, so they're gonna fix it up for me for free.

Laptops will be the same prices at pretty much any store (best buy, cuircut city, office max, office depot, ect.) When I worked at Office Max, we got employee discounts on pretty much everything except laptops,  because they only mark up the prices 3%, and thats pretty much standard. The laptop buisness is so competetive that they hardly make any money off of them. So most stores should be priced around the same. So basically, look for a laptop you like, then wait till one like it goes on sale at a store.

A good brand to get is Hp or Tosheba. Do not get accer, dell, gateway, or sony. Sony's are good computers, but they tend to be more expensive.

Make sure you get at least 2 GBs of RAM, and for that amount, don't go lower than a 2 Ghz processer. For Intel, its the 7200, and for AMD, I think its the TL 58 (I think, im not really sure). Make sure you get a graphcis card in it, most of the time getting a good computer isn't worth getting a good computer unless you have a graphics card. Any computer can run the internet, word processers, and stuff like that. Even with a good computer, you can't play a good game without a good graphics card. I recomment a Nvidia 8000 series, A Nvidia 7600 is decent (its what I got). For a dvd drive, its pretty standard, you can get an HD dvd drive or a blu ray drive, but it'll cost you a lot more than its worth (most of the time). Other than that, it doesn't matter too much on what you get.

The laptop I got was like this.

Cost: $1075
Intel Core 2 duo 7200
2 GB Ram
17" screen
100 GB HD (fast 7200 RPM version)
HD Dvd Drive
Nvidia Gforce 7600 graphics card

For $1200 you should be able to get a laptop better than that (minus the hd dvd drive).

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

Hmm, sounds awesome man...That's the kinda config I'm looking for. Say, Core 2 duo rox every ones' socks? Or is it better to go for a AMD?

I don't think one is really better than the other at this point. For a while AMD was ahead of intel when they came out with their duel core processor, but then intel came out with their core 2 duo which was better than AMD's. I don't know which one has the 'edge' on the market right now. However, unless you're going for a super computer with some 8 core processor, either should be about the same.

Edit: A lot of good games are recommending the Nvidia 8600 gfx card, so if you plan to play new games, that would be a good way to go, but then again, desktops > laptops for gaming.

Same thing.

If you need a laptop, get one, if not you should probably just get a desktop.
