2 questions

Hi all

How do I make a magic spell, which doesn't cost any MP, but is only usable ONCE per fight?

I'm using RPG Maker 2003.

Another question: Is it possible to alter the equipment strings for each character?
Example:
Character 1 has in his Equip-Menu:
- Weapon
- Shield
- Armor
- Helmet
- Accessory

But Character 2 has:
- Weapon
- Shield
- Armor
- Cape
- Relic

Or something like that

The first one can be done with Switches or Variables. There are some good Switch/Tutorials in our Tutorials section. Check those out, and it shouldn't be too hard to figure something out.

As for the second one, using Rm2k's default Menu system, I'm pretty sure that can't be done. With a CMS (Custom Menu System) that wouldn't be very difficult to do, but of course making a CMS can be pretty tricky. I'd read some Tutorials and only attempt it when you feel sure.

I heard about the CMS ... being pretty complex. But it isn't that important, so w/e :D

I suggest using Helmet and Accessory as Accessory A and Accessory B.

I'm sorry, but I can't figure out how to do those one-time-spells :(

I read the tutorial about switches in the forum, but it only describes the basics of a switch (ex: treasure chest).

Could somebody help?

I don't know if you can do this with actual spells...But I know that if you make a "Spell" as a battle command, you can achieve this easily. Go to "Battle Layout" tab, then, you need to click on yer upper right corner, you will see all the battle commands assign to each character. Click on "Set" and a window pops up, look for a number that is empty to yer left-hand, input any name that you see fit (I will call it "Waterfall" onl y as an example). Once you input the name, choose what archetype will it be, here is when you want to pay attention, you can make it either, an "Attack" type and/or "Link to Event" type. Make it an Attack type.

Okay, now go to yer skills tab, make a skill of the same name (e.g. Waterfall) set the type to "Switch".Click on the  ... under "Turn on Switch". Make a switch called "One Time Spell ON" or whatever, click OK.

Go to the "Monster Groups" (M. Groups) tab. On the lower part of the screen, you will see "Battle Events", click on the ... next to "Trigger". When the window pops up, check on the first Switch option, after that, click on the ... then pick the "One Time Spell ON" switch that you just made, good, click OK. Under the trigger condition, there's a blank "Sheet", there you do this: Double click >>>Conditional Branch >>>Switch >>>Pick "One Time Spell ON" >>> DO NOT check the Check the "Execute Custom Handler if Condition is Not Met " at the bottom >>>Click OK.

Inside the Conditional Branch, code this: Conditional Branch >>>  Click the LAST "Hero" option >>> Pick yer Hero and skill (in my case Watefall) >>> DO NOT check the "Execute Custom Handler if Condition is Not Met " >>>  Click OK.

Inside the second Conditional Branch, put a condition that prevents the user form using that spell again, be it a message saying "Can't Use It" or something. That's about. This is but one of many ways to do this, I thought this one would be the easiest.

As for the animation and damage of the spell, is something you need to do yerself. I can also help with that. So if you have any questions, post here, or PM me.
