lineart tips: Make a basic outline for your drawing, (in black) and then you  really should decide the light source. If you dont, it's hard to determine where the shadows should be. Now color your sprite, leaving the black outline alone. At this point you lighten the black outline in the areas where the light is stronger. For example, if it's a guy and the lightsource is behind him, make the black outline on his back slightly lighter. That's how I do it, anyhow.

These are pretty much all of the monsters I made so far for Gemini's game.  Just to clear things up with those of you who recognize it, NO, I did NOT make the dragon, only editted it.  The dragon is from Ultima 3 on the Nintendo Entertainment System.

The main character from one of my game's mugshot.  It's a bit of a work in progress, seeing if I'm any good at custom face sets.  I'd say I'm pretty ok.  Alot of quality is lost because of jpeg-nessness, though.

It ended up much better than I expected, honestly.  I won't say it can compare to, say, Roco, but I'd say it looks pretty good.  Criticism of any (helpful) kind is adored.
