Hip-hop Voldemort

Now this is as much a review of the movie itself as the DVD in which it is formatted and such.

MOVIE:
First off: The entire first half of the movie SUCKED HARDCORE. It was waaaaay rushed and far away from the book. They only had one damn class!!
The second half was better, right after they returned from Christmas holidays. Much better than the first half, and the differences from the book were well-placed and didn't feel all that out-of-order. Snape's Occlumency lessons could have been better and I really didn't like the absurd number of decrees, but just minor things really. Kinda irked me, too, that the movie was the shortest Harry Potter movie so far, yet the book was the longest.

However, all the faults were made worth it for one scene. During the lesson with Snape, when it shows "Voldemort" at the train station, his head seems to jerk around in a sort of old-school hip-hop or death metal/mosh pit style. I found that absolutely hilarious.

Umbridge: 0/10 (nothing to do with the movie, just HATE the character.)
Acting: 9/10
Connection to the book: 5/10
Story: 5/10
Characters: 8/10
Music/Ambient Sound: 9/10
Overall (not an average): 6/10

FEATURES:
Well, there was a language feature and subtitles, but NOTHING ELSE. No commentary, no "how-it-was-done" shots, no gag reel, NOTHING. Not even a short scene extending the "hip-hop Voldemort" to a full song, which would've rocked. Just... nothing.
Now, maybe there were extras in the "special edition," I don't know, but still, why not at least put a gag reel in the normal edition? Why make us pay extra for the special features?

Features: 0/10

DVD overall (Still not an average): 1/10

Next time, give us some special features!!!

What's sad is that he's right.

I thought this was the best one of the Harry Potter movies, but that is only because I don't like the books. It felt a little more accessible to those who didn't read the books.

I first saw it at an Imax Theatre. It looked like a pop-up story book. _sweat_

I agree--this movie was too short. My sister, her boyfriend, and I were ready for this to be, like, two hours. And...there you go. Granted, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is an 800 page book. You try condensing that into a 1 1/2 hour long movie. Still, they did a decent job.

...Hip Hop Voldemort? Um...vidz oar it d!dn't h@ppen? I kinda don't remember that scene... _sweat_

What really gets me is that the first two movies were nearly three hours long, and the movie based on the longest book is a little over two. It's one thing to cut unnecessary bits for the purposes of time, but completely glossing over the story is quite another.

That said, I think that....

SPOILERS

Sirius's death was....weird. Kind of anti-climactic. He just gets hit with the spell and fades into the curtain. I know that in the book, it happens quickly, but in the book, he gets hit with the spell and flies backwards into the curtain. In the movie, he just kind of stands there and disappears into it. It just happens much faster than it should have, and, like the rest of the movie, it just goes ahead and saunters onto the next part. Spell cast, he dies, Harry chases Bellatrix. I couldn't imagine the whole thing taking any more than a minute.

END SPOILERS

*sigh*

I still think that the book was much better than any of the movies.  They did give me a new waqy to visualize the Ministry of Magic.  I never would have pictures the rooms with the orbs like that.  I picture it for like... those roman things that are arched and there is a stage thingat the bottom... I don't remember what they are called....

Colosseum?
Also, to those who doubt the odd Voldemort scene, it's during the first occlumency lesson. I can't post a vid, as I have none of it and it seems no one else has recorded it.

As for Sirius's death, it wasn't the only rushed part, the entire movie was rushed horribly. Seceral important parts were left out, such as
SPOILERS

Kreacher's betrayal.

END SPOILERS

and such. It was like they took the basic premise and events and messed with them making an odd sort of mismatched film loosely based on the book. It's like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the actual event was pretty bland and uninteresting, but the movies took the basic premise and ran with it, which is cool and all but not even remotely based on the true story.

But that's a bit off topic, isn't it?

Um I believe that bit of Kreacher was explained in the movie... When they go into sirus' house during christmas, sirus yells at him and tells him to get out. Then at the end Dumbie tells harry what kreacher did.

Um yar It was around the time Harry was destroying his room.. although it was only mentioned in like one sentence I think. And they just kept going like it wasn't that big of a detail.  _sweat_

Which must've been why I overlooked it. At least it was THERE, unlike 90% of their classes. They had ONE Defense class, and the rest were about six seconds long, what few there were.
