Don't trust girls. They want to see any piece of crap as long as it came out of johnny depp's rectum.

Also, I was seriously anticipating the movie Fanboys which was supposed to come out the same time as Cloverfield. I don't think they're gonna release it anywhere near here though so I'll have to wait for the DVD release.

Well, it's official. Cloverfield was probably the best movie I have ever seen. EVER. I mean, we even went and saw I Am Legend after Cloverfield, but it didn't evven stack up there with Cloverfield.

Although, after watching both, I realized writers must really hate Manhattan considering they were both disaster movies >_>

Saw it last night, and I gotta say, I loved it. It has a monster, but I don't know how well it could be compared to Godzilla. In fact, the scariest things in the movie weren't even the thing that's running around stepping on tanks. The whole thing is shown as a partially-interrupted video on an SD card by some amateur cameramen, so expect a bit of shaking (motion sickness may set in for those of you who can't handle a sideways camera). It was pretty epic, the special effects were great, but not over-the-top, there was a huge air of mystery, and because it was all shown in the form of an amateur video, a lot of questions are left unanswered, but it's all cool. If you keep your eyes peeled, you'll spot a few hints about what's actually going on, and it's apparent that there will be a sequel (which I'm now awaiting with incredible vigor), and unlike some movies this year, I actually care about the characters, their situation, their problems, and whether they live or die. All in all, go and watch it. If anyone tells you it sucks, then they went and saw the wrong damn movie.

Was pretty epic all in all.

Was I the only one who missed the very subtle hint in the very last scene? O_o

No; I saw it. And I have come up with a few theories of everything due to the Viral Marketing (2 of which are closed: tagruato.jp and tidowave.com)

<>

Rob gets offered the position of VP for Slusho!'s advertising department to get the product plugged in America. Slusho! is a Sub-Product of Tagruato, a deep-sea drilling company with many locations around the world - including one that opened in Septemeber off of the East Coast of America (a.k.a. "Chuai Station").
A group of people form a P.E.T.A.-type operation called T.I.D.O.Wave to counter the actions of Tagruato. Their most notable actions include sabotaging the Chuai Station and an attempted kidnapping of Tagruato CEO Ganu Yoshida (who was on his way to New York at the time and managed to survive the attack).

Because of the attack on the Chuai Station, some creature awoke under the surface and made its way over to New York, causing the capsized oil tanker. This creature was the one seen during the movie.
This answers a few questions, except for the last scene of Coney Island; what was the thing falling from the sky? Honestly, I have no idea. We can dismiss the idea of it being the monster with a few things:
The Coney Island video segments were shot in April of 2008; the Chuai Station opened in September 2007.
Of course, this all theory.

Anybody else have any ideas?

Theres the Cloverfield movie.
It sucked.  Watch the trailer and you've basically seen the movie.

The characters sucked too.  You guys are crazy.  How can you care for the characters?  They have nothing to them besides Robs love for his girlfriend.  Oh, and the ****ing camera guy screaming robs name every 5 seconds like he was jesus or some ****.

Speaking of rob, he's an ***.  He got everyone killed.

It was WAY to shaky.  I get its some piece of **** handicam or whatever, but you didnt know what the **** was going on for 90% of the film.  There was nothing to the film that you couldnt get from the trailers besides the monster.  WHICH YOU DIDNT EVEN GET TO REALLY SEE.  All I know is that he had some weird merman face and a HUEG pair of monkey arms.

lol.... so you expected it to break into a high def panoramic shot then?

It was excellent in its simplicity. I saw the monster fine...The characters were douchebag newyorkers, and they all die. Were you expecting the cast of fightclub or something?

lol.

i dont understand how you could not know whats going on.

I didnt expect some flashy ****, but I expected the camera NOT to be whipped around like a shoe lace for 80% of the entire movie.

How could you get what was going on?  Everything was so RIDICULOUSLY shaky that I could barely tell what direction they were going in.  Of course I knew what they were doing, GO THRU TUNEL GET GURLFREN GO 2 BRIGE.  OH N DONT FORGOT TO SHAKE THE CAMERA LIKE YOU HAVE ****ing PARKINSON'S.

The cast WAS a bunch of new york douche bags.  EXACTLY.

Fact of the matter is, it was way too simple.  They basically spent the entire movie doing the **** I already knew they were gunna do, just from watching the trailer.

It was a cheap one time thrill ride.  Not a movie.  Except on this ride you either love it or you hate it.  And even if you love it, theres nothing more to it after you've seen it once.

A sequel would suck.  Unless its a fake documentary on the monster/disaster,  then that'd be badass, but as it stands right now, the movie was garbage.
