In order. I'm including the main series games from I to IX only.

FFIX - Incredible. So many people are WRONG saying it was bad. It was how Final Fantasy was meant to be in the future, unlike other games in the series...

FFV - This quickly moved up on my list as I played through it. Best FF game in terms of game play. It was basic but so much fun to play nothing else mattered.

FFVIII - I have no idea why people hated this. The junction system was confusing at first but it worked. It definitely started out slow, but really picked up by the end of the first disc.

FFIV - Now this one was fun and really began the whole idea of a story in Final Fantasy. Prior to this, the stories were more or less just there as a reason to go on. This game made it part of the game.

FFVII - I won't say it wasn't good. I enjoyed the music a lot and the game play was engaging. However, I can't see the hype over the story. It really ruined it for me. It just tried to be so interestingly complicated it made no sense and failed. The characters didn't help either, as the only attempt at making them unique was making them "badass." To me, the badass character limit in any game should be two, and they can't take both the main protagonist and main antagonist positions.

FFVI - Here's where one of my favorite things, music, came into play. The music was always good, but really started picking up here. However, they started to move towards that ugly "futuristic war that laces technology with magic" storyline and only a few of the characters really mattered that much. It felt like a lot of characters were thrown in for the sake of having a ridiculous amount of characters for Kefka's tower.

FFI - I couldn't sit through the NES version, but I imagine the NES version at the time would be equivalent to the GBA version now. Based on that, this was obviously about getting the series to a start and did very well by creating an interesting world to roam with fun battles and music.

FFII - I don't see the appeal of this one at all. The leveling up system was awful and could have potentially ruined the rest of the series if it stayed that way. They tried to make more of a story this time, but it failed due to dragging on and just being there as a reason to continue through the dungeons. The music was okay, but didn't stand out.

FFIII - This, in my opinion, was the biggest failure of a Final Fantasy game in terms of the main series. I can see why it never made it to the US until the DS. The only saving grace was that it experimented with the job system, which later became crucial to FFV's success. This game defined the idea of fighting for ten years until your party is strong enough to complete the next dungeon, which was immediately taken away for the most part after this. The music was the dullest in the series as well (save for "The Boundless Ocean"). This game worked experimentally and nothing more. I suppose it was necessary to get the higher levels of Final Fantasy, but there's really no point in playing it anymore.

This is always a fun chat, and while my opinion most stays the same every time, there is a little change once in a while, such as FFV climbing up to second place.

I've really gotten into Crisis Core. I don't know why, but I feel the back story to FFVII is better then FFVII. Though I like all the FF games. I haven't beaten XII well becasue I did find it a little bit slow and boring. I hate Vaan so much. Basch would have to be my favorite from that game.

I don't really wander that, but Auron should be thrown in as well.

Truth be told, the biggest "Wanker" character ever in any Final Fantasy game, would have to be Irvine; the only redeeming moment for him, was when he had second thoughts about shooting Edea, which only proved he was human, and still remembered her from the past. Other than that, he totally blew.

Prior to the PlayStation era of FF games FF1, FF5 and FF6 are my three favourite in that order. My reasons? FF1 allows you to start off with a team of Red Mages right off the bat. RED MAGES, PEOPLE! Who can deny the awesomeness that are the Red Mages? FF5 because of its job class system, and again the fact that you can have a team of Red Mages. Though it was sad when Galuf dies. And FF6 because I really liked the story and the characters. Kefka especially was awesome. Who can honestly say that a deranged, megalomaniac clown is inferior to Sephiroth?
Out of the PlayStation era of FF games FF7, FF9 and FF12 are my favourite in that order. My reasons? FF7 was the first FF game I played and the story and characters stuck with me. And the Materia system rocked too. FF9 because its everything an RPG should be that isnt FF7. The only character I didnt really like in it was Amarant and thats because he didnt really have a place in the story if memory serves me right. And FF12 because for some reason I really liked it. I dont know why but it just does.
Aside from those 6 FFT is my favourite FF game that isnt in the "numbered" series because I really liked the story and characters, and tactical RPG's are one of my favourite genre's of games as well.
Oh and did I say that Red Mages rock?

I deny the awesomeness of Red Mages, they are good for a multitude of situations, but they aren't GREAT in the end. I'd like my final level spells and outrageous hit amounts.

Granted you dont have access to some of the most powerful spells, but you have a character than can play multiple roles all at once. And if you have all party members as Red Mages then your whole team can play those roles. Someone injured? Not a problem just have one of the Red Mages heal that member. Enemy has an elemental weakness? Awesome, that means the whole team can exploit it. Need to give the enemy a beating physically? Have them all attack the enemy then. Sure its only just weaker than a knight or other physical-based class but with a full team of Red Mages its better than a team consisting of a Knight, Thief, White Mage and Black Mage.

I totally 100% disagree.

Seeing that all the elemental spells in FFI are able to be cast upon all enemies, one blast of the most powerful attack is generally sufficient enough to destroy all opposition on one hit, unless physical attack power is needed, than a white mage can boost the attack power of a Ninja who gets a massive amount of hits in, equaling monstrous damage, rivaling that of multiple red mages. Not to mention Haste on a Knight has similar effects.

I don't recall Red Mages being able to cast haste or the attack increasing spell, I could be wrong though.

I actually think you are. I know that I played through FF1 with a Thief only. Although Chaos wooped my *** over and over so I became a ninja.
Ninjas can use pretty much the same spells as a red mages right? And I could use temper and haste on myself. But I did miss Saber. That's one awesome spell.

I dunno, it might be that he was a clown who.. blew the world up, it might just be that I'm tired of Kefka fanboys, it MIGHT, MIGHT, MIGHT just be his laugh (BWERP BOOP BOOP BOOP), or it might be because the last fight against him is painfully long (of what I've seen).

Meh.  I've never been that much of a Final Fantasy fan.

Which just begs the question why I'm here... O.o
