Ephaims Art Corner
« on: September 16, 2008, 01:40:57 AM »
I believe that I had one of these posted sometime in the past, but I don't want to go and look for it in the depths of the Art forum, nor do I want to necro post/revive it. Instead, I've decided to make an entirely new topic altogether! I'm going to try and draw more frequently, and the pieces that I actually finish I shall place both here and on Deviant Art.

Here are two of my most recent drawings:

Entitled "Welcome Home".

I feel like you're using deformed creatures and abstract anatomy to hide you're weaknesses.

But it looks like you have a nice control of the pencil/ink pen.  You have nice lineweights.  You should do some more.  I dont feel like I can properly judge your art based off of these 3.  Post more.

I love the shading on your sketches.
For the one you just posted- I really like it too. The only thing I'd suggest is maybe drawing the figure first, then drawing the clothes onto it as right now he seems kind of flat- you can't really imagine a body under the clothes.
Looks awesome though!

Finally! I was able to get another one done. Har she is.

'Tis a Demon General (Flower-themed =P) with his little minions flying around him.

Thing with the pen? =O

And here's another one. It's a witch (sort of) with a demon-shaped chair behind her.

You confuse me.

You have such great line confidence. Like you're really awesome at line weights and not doubling over on them. Everything looks clean

But then you have...well...to be honest, pretty horrible anatomy. I think you should work on that. ALOT.

Still cool though, just like get some basic forms before you lay down those awesome lines.

I agree with Rev. The drawings look beautifully natural but there's things about them that just don't work which your awesome style is covering up.

Life drawing classes are pretty helpful, if you haven't taken any. I've forgotten who on here said you have to know human anatomy before you can mess it up, but I totally agree.

Yeah, I'm just gonna half agree with the last two posts. I don't think you messed up the figures as much as they did, but once they pointed it out I noticed some slight flaws... flaws which are easily overlooked.

I personally think that your art is fantastic the way it is. I would find it difficult to draw a realistic flower general too.

Ha ha. Thank you, everyone. I'm glad I've got your honest opinions on things. Glad that you all decided to comment, too!

Yeah, my anatomy is pretty much in the gutter. However, I am trying to improve upon it! Well...bit-by-bit, that is. I'm drawing at least 1-3 times a day (1-3 pictures) and these are going to be fully shaded and everything. That is starting tomorrow. I manage to do it in Art class, so I'm going to do it home, too. Er...well, I don't usually finish 2. Maybe 1, or if I'm lucky 1 and a 1/2.

Still, I plan to get some pictures (whatever I can find: people, animals, etc. All in odd positions and such) and then draw 'em. Well, try to draw them, anyway! I have to keep on working at it! I can see where I'm going wrong, and can picture everything fine in my head...but it's getting it onto the paper that hurts! It never really comes out right, and that's because I don't know enough about the body and such to put it in the positions I want it in.

Anyway, thank you for the comments and replies, people! I'll try to post something daily!

Well, if you ever get a real grip, don't necessarily drop this abstract design for it. Personally, I can't stand anatomically correct drawings. Perhaps it's because I hate being reminded of real life in art, or because I see that around me enough already, but the abstract is just what I need in my art preference.

Why do people think proper anatomy means realism?

You can have good anatomy and still be abstract or cartoonish.

edit: wait zkx said this before
WHY DO I ALWAYS AGREE WITH THIS mother****er.
