Rpg Maker 200/3 vs Rpg Maker XP vs Rpg Maker VX

RPG Maker XP

I personally didnt like Rmxp back when I was using 2k3. One reason the battle system. The cool thing is that there are scripts for that. Theres sideview battle system scripts and improved graphics in rmxp. There is also a few action battle scripts out there. My favorite is Blizz ABS. Its easy to use and you can still get support from the maker. There is three mapping layers in rmxp which allows you to make beautiful maps. You can use shadows, fogs. you may only use one character per image other than use 8.

RMXP allows you to use any graphic in any folder.

I used this when I first started rpg making. I didnt like any of the limits. But I used it. Dont have much to say but I wish rmxp had included sideview battlers already and included a movie playing feature in rmxp. I didnt like the two layer mapping,

In rmxp the tileset width has to be 256 but the height can be anything. I didnt like havnig to use 256-bit graphics.

RPG Maker VX
You think after enterbrain made rm2k/3, rmxp they'd do better than all of the other makers? They repeated rm2k with a battle system where you dont even get to see squat. Good thing there is a sideview battle system for this thing too.

Its way easier to map in this one but I dont like it as much as XP. I did like it how they included HP bars so we didnt have to script them. They removed too many things from rmxp though.

Overall rmxp is my favorite.
No limits in graphics size. A character can be as large as 1000x1000 as long as its 4 frames by 4 frames. No tileset limits, scripts can make this maker really awesome. You can change the menu without heavy programming needed.

Whats your favorite maker?

As soon as my AGM is delievered i can tell you how it is compared to XP

As for capability to versatility ratio, XP takes the cake, no question.

But honestly, this topic has been done to death

I like XP's flexibility a lot. What I don't like though is having a crappy selection of chipsets and characters. Having to draw all my own stuff to even make the intro sequence of a game killed my enthusiasm very quickly.

You know sai, you CAN use other chips and tiles and character sets....just with a quick edit
resize 200% (pixel resize)
and then you copy them into a template
8 32pixel tiles wide by
XXX 32pixel tiles long

If you want to do anything custom in 2k3, its the same crap, as far as intros go.

I like XNA better when it comes to making games.

But if I had to pick one I would go with rm2k3. Mostly because I haven't worked all that much in the newer ones.

Very True. XP comes with a wider selection of tilesets and character sets.
50 Tilesets plus custom autotiles.
200 Characters. 200 monsters to use.

Im so stoked for AGM, with the whole XNA export. I was looking at plugins under development for the whole XNA thing....so sweet.
Im making a high red version of some tiles and my base templates currently, just for use with Xbox on a 1080 screen monitor

AGM is the Action Game Maker, Enterbrains newest thing
Apparently it's very very good
I personally haven't tried it yet though

And I think XNA is Microsofts game creation suite, I'm not too positive about that one though
