I'm about ready to kill

Okay, my computer has been running at 100 percent CPU usage for past couple weeks. I've tried system restoring, it always fails, I've tried running countless virus scans, I've googled crap up the *** and can't seem to find out what's wrong. The problem seems to be the process "SYSTEM", constantly running at a high percent CPU usage. (Not System Idle Process) That's all I know. It slows my computer down to near uselessness. Most programs crash, no RPG Maker Testing, no photoshop, no games, iTunes struggles to start but does fine once it starts. I can barely get anvil to run smoothly. It took ten minutes to get the internet running. My computer also seems to have a hard time recognizing USB devices. No iPod, no game controller, no printer, no flashcards, nothin'. I'm sick of this crap, I don't know how this happened. I downloaded an update of some sort and bam, CPU carnage. Any help would be delightful, to say the least.

Welp if it isn't a virus it could be one of your  hardware bits is failing.
How old is the computer anyhow?

Alot of the time CPU usage is cluttered by addware. I'll tell you what to do:

If using vista: Click start, at the bottom in the little search bar type in CMD, then when the command window shows up type in MSCONFIG

If using XP: Click Start, click run, type in CMD, and then MSCONFIG

Go to the startup tab and see if you have a crap load of unnessary programs running. If you dont know if they are unessary then screen shot them and post them and I'll look at it.

Also you can try defragging your computer, and disk cleanup.

Okay, so I am a bit unsure what is important and what is unnecessary, so here's a pic.

O yeah you have ALOT of programs running from the start.

This is how many programs you could knock off from just that screenshot.

But do so at your own risk, turn some things off in startup could make other thigns not work, though most things like java for example and everything else will startup when called anyway.

Okay, I meant to post this a while ago, but I was having problems getting on the internet. I went and ended all the programs just as you suggested and nothing happened. I thought it might be helpful if I post a screen shot of the problem.

This sounds like a virus or some kind of addware. Have you tried ending the process? And have you unchecked all of the unessesary startup processes?

Go into safe mode and see if it's still at that usage.

Research all the processes you have running with the symptoms you computer is showing; and google will most likely give you your answer.

Don't do that, you'll crash, the SYSTEM process is usually the host process for all Windows programs.
Don't take my word for it though, on the host process thing, just trust me that you'll crash.

Okay, this might sound stupid but how do I go into safe mode?

Press F8 continuously as your computer is starting up until you see the boot menu
It should be in there someplace.

After you're in safe mode, look in your tasks and services and see if the problem is still there, if it is, then have your computer looked at by a pro, it might have a hardware memory/cpu problem type thing going on

Just hold F8 while windows is booting.
