Triple Point
« on: May 23, 2009, 03:19:36 AM »
triple point — n. The temperature and pressure at which a substance can exist in equilibrium in the liquid, solid, and gaseous states.

TRIPLE POINT

Sethel Walkins is a nerd. He spends much of his time on the computer, and the rest doing things such as reading comic books and collecting PEZ dispensers. One day, a group of boys tell him about a supposed tabletop gaming club that meets every Thursday at 4:00 PM at 63 West Brown Street.
Upon arriving, he finds an old, run-down factory, though thinking it strange at first, he resolves to enter. He looks in the first room, and sees nothing. Roaming the place, our protagonist finds that it was a trick, and as he is leaving, an earthquake happens. Sethel sprints, retracing his steps and pruning his digressions. Rubble has covered the entrance, though, and he attempts another exit. There is none to be found, and there stumbles upon a strange machine that is logged to contain the potential for time travel, abandoned as though the creator had realized the folly of such an attempt. It seems there is a piece missing, and in its place, Sethel deposits his watch, and activates the machine, setting the time to 30 minutes before the earthquake, resolving to kill his other self if it proves effective. As the countdown starts, though, he panics, and removes his watch just as a green flash of light engulfs the pod he is caught in.
He awakens in a rusty-looking building in the middle of nowhere, it seems, a toxic wasteland of garbage and plants. He meets in one of the rooms a scientist, wounded, who tells him that some strange creatures came and killed most of the faculty. Sethel explains what had happened to himself, and asks the scientist if he could examine his watch. He does, finding that it seems to possess magical powers, setting a desk on fire when a certain code is entered into it, and joins the party. In the wrecked rocket ship next door, he finds the same monsters, apparently, and does battle. Seeing as though their radio equipment is destroyed, they head for the 2nd base at the South pole of the planet, where they hope to find assistance.

Features:

*Code System that allows Sethel to learn the abilities of enemies by reading the divine speech that the universe is written in, transliterating it into decimal by the help of special "prophets", and entering the code on his watch in battle.

*Alchemy System that allows Dr. Gaffdel to collect and fuse items found to have various effects in and out of battle.

*Greater amount of puzzles than most RPGs.

Whaddya think gize?

Wow. You could really develop this into a great story. I love the whole watch approach. It's very unique. I'd love to see how this develops. My best suggestion would be to consider certain details more, such as why the other base is in the south pole and where (and/or when) exactly this run-down factory Sethel is taken to is. I would imagine the scientist would be able to tell him more and that Sethel would have a few more questions. Other than that though, I like it a lot! :)

I just said south pole because that makes the most sense to me, the first one being at the north pole to be easy to think of. I'll think of where the factory is. Right now I'm waiting on some stuff from Fish, who is doing his Chain Game chapter, so demos are gonna have to wait, though I could still work on the database etc. Dr. Gaffdel does tell Sethel some info about his world as the story goes on.

The game is called Triple Point because of a spacetime warp that allows the 3 alternate universes to intersect each other in the game, namely, Sethel's universe, Dr. Gaffdel's universe, and the universe the monsters come from.

I'm also thiiiinking about a Pokemon-style system of taming monsters, but I'll have to look at implementing it and reception.

Thanks for the support.

Honestly, I think training monsters is a bit too much. Maybe you could have Sethel learn a code in the watch that lets him manipulate the code into a solid sentient form that fights on it's own (AI controlled, maybe until later when you find a code to control them), and that would help. The monsters level would be the same as Sethels.

Somewhat yeah. You could always add in that he codes it's elemental properties, weaponry, and coding, and as he gets better at the coding, the monster becomes stronger.

Very impressive. This is now on my to-play-list and I'll be helping you soon. Also monster training sounds a bit tedious, but if you're willing to stick with it, ask Prpl or Muraiko they are some best coders on the site. Also I'lll be glad to help you with this in any way I can.

I kinda need some monsters and monster charsets, zombies especially, and a chipset of garbage and waste and some run-down scientific research facilities etc.

Why the monsters?
The reason for such mingling of worlds is the following:
Sethel teleports to the north pole of earth.
At the same time, at the south pole base, a teleporter is being tested, which out of extreme coincidence interacts with Sethel's teleporter.
Attempting to teleport Sethel to two locations at once causes the previous point teleportation to become more of a line...
...and in the center lies Hell, in the core of the Earth.
Thus, not only is Sethel teleported, but the demons as well, to both locations.
However, the teleporter at the north base is much weaker than the one at the south, so it takes significantly longer to load the specimen from the teleporter's cache, and after teleporting Sethel, the machine breaks down.
The Sethel 2 at the south pole is much more quickly teleported, but also were the demons and so he and most of the south base's faculty were killed.
The demons then proceeded to spread about the surface until reaching the north base, where they caused minimal wreckage and the game begins.
