Fictional Religion
« on: June 03, 2009, 11:27:36 PM »
Hey, guys. I'm working on a fictional religion. Tell me if you have any ideas.

The religion revolves around two key entities: The Sun and The Moon. The Sun is the natural enemy in the desert, and is an evil giant that harms the people. All fire and heat is descended from the Sun. The Moon is his counterpart, a loving being that brings health. All water and cold is descended from the Moon, which is thought to be made of water, as the Sun is made from fire. The darkening of the Moon with the lunar cycles is thought to be the draining of its water unto the Earth, as they correlate with the flow of the rivers.
The people believe that the sky is a vast blackness dotted with drops of water, the children of the lunar mother, vanquished in daytime by the Sun. This sky suspends three eternal entities, the spheres Earth, Sun, and Moon.
They believe that all animals (including humans) are made from the substance of animal, and all plants from the substance of plant, becoming common earth as they die, as they were eons ago. Winds represent life and change, as a separation of organic substances from inorganic ones with breath, perhaps carry the thoughts of the ancestors.

***NEW***

People in this land were heavily segregated based on skin color, the darker representing the lower castes and the lighter the higher.
The people tended to be nocturnal, avoiding the rage of Sol in the desert, and thus grew to have nocturnal traits such as large eyes.
It was considered foolish to cut or clean one's hair, because it was believed that the hair represented one's age and wisdom, both because of the length and the sand accumulated in it being the knowledge of the ancestors, as the hair was believed to be connected directly to the brain.

1st legit post (round of applause)

That's pretty good. I'd have to say it's better than anything I came up with . I had a fictional religion in my game centerd around 4 beings of elemental origin. kinda like the way the tri-force worked, but with an added element.
what is this fictional religion for?

**** like this makes me wonder about people.

"Durrr, I'm so important and well refined, that I refuse to read something because it doesn't appeal to my eyes, and then I must announce to the person with sole intent on harming their feelings and making them look stupid to their peers."

Grow up man.

Also, the stars should represent something, you know, like in Greek and Roman mythos had stories behind each constellation. Stars seem like they have a lot of cool potential.

You didn't see the original post did you? It was a mess.
The edited version is much better as said earlier.

Get your facts straight before you accuse me of anything.

Aye, too many people try to go for the dark = evil/light = good angle. It's different.

One of the biggest things I hate is the usage of darkness being evil and light being always good. So I don't follow tradition. That tradition sucks and is too predictable. Thus I give props for breaking tradition.

Sinful stuff? Hmm... Morals are rather important to a religion, so I'll think about that.
