I just came back from watching "Avatar"
« on: December 19, 2009, 03:59:51 AM »
Am I the only one that kept thinking "This is basically what Final Fantasy the Movie should have been"?

I'll be seeing it soon. I'll be back to you on that to tell you what I thought...

I think it looks retarded. Summarize the plot for me. Feel free to include spoilers, but be sure to spoiler tag them. I want to see just how close my assumptions are to the real deal.

Something about blue people with tails. It looks retarded, but the feedback has been fairly positive. Of course, as we all know, everyone who isn't a charasian is a brainless fool, so we'll see how that turns out.

I think it looks overhyped but according to everyone that I know who isn't a moron who's seen it it kind of deserves it.

Anyway:
Apparently the plot, of course, has to do with the Na'vi, the blue people (Hey, listen!).
They're the native residents of Pandora, the planet with the floating landmasses that are physically impossible.
The whole "Avatar" part comes in when apparently, either by capturing or cloning them, we are able to control them remotely.
While we are controlling them, we experience everything as they would.
I have a feeling that the plot from there goes as expected.
Oh, and the main character is paraplegic, and one of the Avatars, so he can walk again while doing it.
Call me a cheesy girly-man, but I actually liked Titanic; this guy has a pretty good track record from the sound of things. I wouldn't pay to go see this, but I'll probably end up watching it on HBO or something.

You're cheery girly-man.

Nah, actually I want to see this too. 18 years in the making? Overhyped? It can be some lulz.

No, but you are a cheey girly-man.

Oh dear. The CG isn't even that fantastic, either.

The trailers for this movie have pretty much given away the entire plot.
That alone feels bad, but I had no interest in it anyway.

I think it's bad form to advertise the movie as "the most expensive movie ever". How will that make people want to watch it?
If they told me "there's a dancing bear" I would be all over that ****.

So? The plot of The Lord of the Rings was given away in the first trailer, and look at what spawned.
