Sorry for not posting on the youtube thread. I just wanted to hear about what you guys have to say about this video, and I'm hoping that it will be a discussion that lasts a few pages, which would really clutter the youtube thread.

So... Yeah, go ahead.
You know what I ll just post it on the right place :P
EDIT: Heh, I cant delete threads anymore. Can someone do it for me?

EDIT 2: Nvm. Go ahead and talk about it here. :P

The Oregon Trail gag is off-base. Everyone knows fording the river only works about 2% of the time. Caulking the wagon and floating it across is where it's at.

If those people had played the game, they wouldn't be in that mess!

I think it's hard to argue with that. There are plenty of people who waste hundreds of hours of time with videogames. Even me, I spent a lot of my childhood alone with different videogames, especially various RPGMakers, rm2k3. Though, I feel my experience is different from the ones this guy is getting at. I don't spend nearly as much time as I used to on videogames and I only spend the time I do devote to games on rm2k3. Things were different when I was a little kid, I group up in many shitty situations, and as silly as it says, videogames were the way I dealt with. It was an easy way to avoid dealing with reality. Since I was a little kid, I think it makes sense I tried to separate myself from the world.

Anyways, I've gotten over that and, like I said, don't spend nearly as much time alone. I feel this video is talking about the fanatical kids. You know, the ones who still obsess over FF7. The ones, like my friend dorms with, who never go outside of their room and play wow. The ones that wake up and their first thought is they gotta beat that game they just bought or started or whatever. I can see where he's coming from though. I definitely feel a little bad for anyone who feels that their virtual life is more important than an actual real life relationship. I guess we should be so lucky they'll never have kids. 0_o

Yes, I've seen so many people waste their lives on WoW. One of my brothers is like that and if the other wasn't in the army, he'd be no better. Kinda weird how addicting these games can be... I smell a conspiracy!

EDIT: And I say don't delete. This is just a regular conversation with an instructional video to boot.

Indeed. Of course, if you had the option to use a ferry, that's by far the safest way across.

I think it's just a matter of knowing how to manage your time. I play games, do art and stuff all the time. but seriously WOW has the addicting effect.

I stand corrected, sir.

Regarding WoW, I knew two guys who were skinny before playing and absolutely ballooned after a couple years of WoW. There's some validity to that stereotype.

I'm guessing they exercised regularly before then. If anything, WoW would make you eat less because of all the levelling up you're trying to do.

I don't see anything wrong with just playing some single player games casually. When you get into trying to closely examine a 19 year old game for obscure glitches, then some validity begins to emerge.

I have a sister who plays WoW a ton and she is a normal, well adjusted human being and a succesful mother. Not everyone who plays WoW is a freak.

Not really at all. It's just that people talk about the really bad cases the most. Everyone I know who plays WoW regularly is a normal, well-adjusted person.

Pfft. Where's the sense of adventure in taking a pansy ferry? Buy 20 ox and run through everything.

Before I saw the last part concerning the video game community, I was going to say everything he said there.

But on another note, his feelings of failure stem from an acceptance of certain social roles as being "better" than others. If it was his intent to have a happy marriage and he failed, then sure, he is a failure. But do not take it upon yourself to preach and implicitly belittle those who strive towards different goals. If videogames make you happy, what is the difference? I hope I'm not being too controversial when I say that marriage is no guarantee for satisfaction and happiness. A climber can fail to climb everest; don't tell me that I failed. I never tried.
