My sister got this game.  She's been trying to fight off Bellsprouts with a water PkMn and a rock PkMn.  She's failing miserably.

I'd **** myself against a gold golem. And Weezing is pretty gnarly if you train him right, same goes with Muk. They can be so annoying and really do some damage with their poison attacks.

Koffing/Weezing actually have pretty decent physical defenses without too many elemental weaknesses. Takes hits a heck of a lot better than most of my team, that's for darn sure. With Smokescreen and Sludge Bomb (which has a good chance to poison) I mostly use my Weezing to take on things that are much higher level than me or I don't have any good way of damaging with the rest of my team. And Levitate is always nice.

Plus, he's happy. I mean, look at that face

In other news, there are only two types of Pokemon that you can catch in HGSS: roaming dogs that escape first turn if able and have roar, and everything else. F' you, Entei and Raikou.

Don't use Master Balls on legendaries. Save 'em for shinies.

It's a better use for the masterball than a legendary which you can catch easily with Ultra Balls, and you can just reset if you don't get.

Legendaries have high stats and strong attacks. Shinies have... shininess. They may be rarer, but beside being shiny, they don't do much. I'm not sure I'd keep my Master Ball for a shiny that I may not even encounter through the entire game. But of course, I don't even own the game, so yeah.

I'm with Cerb and Hobo. I'll eventually get the dogs, and all the stationary legendaries are easy enough since you can reset.

Shinies are about as hard to catch as any non-shiny. Use an Ultraball on it.

Or a simple Poké Ball? Would that work too? Because... any non-shiny are capture-able by Poké Balls.

Of course, on Shiny Abra... or Legendaries, better use your best.

Well the thing is, if you screw up, say you kill it, or it escapes, there goes that chance FOREVER. YOu can just reset to aqquire legendaries
