Thing is, afaik, the files for every game you have is still on your computer; it's just a matter of being able to get through steam's interface to allow you to actually play the games.

If steam catastrophically shuts down, Valve better get their *** in gear and setup some kind of... Un-liscensing program that allows the games you bought to be played outside of the client.

There's an offline mode, and you can play your games without an internet connection.

You know.

Nothing I tried worked. I had the option to continue Steam offline, but when I tried, it would start to load, and then fail, because it couldn't update or something like this.

Or you could download a crack for the game but I guess getting online for the crack defeats the purpose of playing offline.

I've always been a little wary about things like Steam that requite you to use the client software to play games that you bought. If or Steam decides they want to charge money to let you use it, or the servers that host it become unsupported, or your internet is working right for a while, or who knows what, there goes everything you spent money on. There's comfort in a CD. Even if it's an old game you haven't played in years since you can install the CDs and be playing the game within minutes risk free.

Though, on the other hand, 5 bucks for Bioshock is pretty darn cheap.

I bought it for 4 on ebay.

And I hate steam. It has bog down every computer i've installed it to. My system is like, bog down.

Valve have said that something along these lines is the plan, if Steam meets it's demise. And regardless, you can always copy out the files and just apply a crack. Most steam games are just normal game installations with a different exe
