Isolation- an isometric space shooter rpg
« on: November 02, 2010, 06:17:51 PM »
There is not much I can say about this project, aside from what you see.

http://beta.stencyl.net/games/play.php?gameID=1687

You are a scout droid, sent to investigate the sudden communications breakdown on a remote Space station. Supply ships have stopped returning. No transmissions or radiation signals have been coming from the station, and its your job to find out what has led to the sudden radio silence of Station Eight.
You arrive at the location of Station Eight only to find it seems to have been somehow consumed by a mass of matter...As if the station had been swallowed up by a meteorite. Scans show that life signs are strong in the innermost chambers of the station, and that Security override has locked down the outer chambers. There is one way in, through a cargo airlock that has not yet been consumed by the  matter.

Isolation (title may be subject to change) is an isometric top down shooter that is at some point bound to have some elements of RPG and detective thrown into the mix.
The focus is on Simplicity of gameplay...and in the end, the draw-in will be the polished retro feel, and I wont lie, people seem to be drawn to the fact that the tiles resemble minecraft, so Im going to try to use more of that.

The game is intended to be free to play. It will be published on Kongregate, and if I get a good enough rating, hopefully I can get some sign-on from other sites if the numbers look good...the intent is to venture into flash games and developing a game intended for a social gaming site I guess. Im kind of winging it here, but Id like to do something semi-commercial with this.

Acheivements, weapon upgrades, a forking storyline, multiple endings and a scoreboard are all planned.

The demo above is still pretty early development. No funtioning enemies, score is not implemented, and weapon upgrades break after level three. Many bugs. Check it out though. This is my first realistic and serious attempt at making a game solo.

Yes it does. But Voxels and low res textures do not.

And I wont lie...Im in it to sell out. If I can capitalize by emulating a certain visual style, then Ill do it.

It looks awesome so far! Reminds me of phantasy star for some reason. I'd call it 'isomation' :p

I like the isometric feel of everything. Makes maps have more feeling to them.

Also, are you suppose to be able to straddle left and right... I forgot the exact name for it.
facing forward but moving left. if so that's cool. If not, I'm sure you already know about this.

Still. I like what I see so far.

Yeah, Strafing is intended... Especially with the bi-directional shooting that comes later in the game. Its going to start out feeling more rpg/explorationy, and as it progresses, it gets more and more shump.

If youve ever played "hero core" its kind of like that, only in mock 3-d and with more level interaction.

If you havent, then do so. Its free and awesome. One of the better solo indy releases Ive played
