Toehider's Lyrics are frequently quirky, oddball things in the vein of Frank Zappa. I love it, and I love Mike Mills and everything he does.

Oh, so you probably enjoy Ayreon? Most Ayreon albums are sci-fi rock operas, so that seems like a decent fit.

I listened to The Theory of Everything some time ago, and another one after you recommended, but I'm not sure yet. The 'rock opera' nature is hammed up so much in that band that it's almost not taking itself seriously enough for me! But I'll try again with another album - I like the idea of albums being set in a world and all that, but having different characters voiced by different singers becomes a bit too musical-y for me.

I wasn't an immediate fan of Ayreon either, but I was perfectly willing to let it grow on me after hearing Arjen Lucassen's side-project Guilt Machine. If you feel it's a bit over-the-top, try Universal Migrator Part 1, as it's a less hammy take on the formula (part 2 dives right in to the excessive nature of the music project, though). There's also Star One, which has a similar tone as Ayreon but without the guest musicians. If you're looking for his music style with less rock opera style and no characters being voiced by different musicians and a darker, more serious tone, Guilt Machine really nails it (and On This Perfect Day is my favorite album he's made). There are a lot of other things he's done, but that's a good start if you dig the music but aren't quite in love with it yet.

I found out about a pretty nifty thrash band, but sadly I only learned of them after 3/4 of the members left. Oh well, at least the sole remaining member is the singer/guitarist/songwriter and seems dedicated to replacing the other three. I've seen similar circumstances work out before.

Started listening to game OSTs recently, trying to find one that works for the baby. So far I've noticed that older midi type music with less music channels seem to do the job. Well that and piano scores.

But then there are some gems like Lolipop chainsaw of course. He didn't like that though.
