So I finally got this game...

Can someone please explain how this works? I'm playing the warrior of light story and I can't figure out how you are supposed to fight this game with any kind of skill.
I sap bravery and tries to use attacks, grab some EX cores and manage to score an attack to win. Most of the character's moves are slow and about everything can avoid it.
Also, how do you recover Hp after battles? It kinda sucks to lose 1/2 of your hp in the first fight and have to beat the rest with no damage.

Yeah... Might be rambling but I'm actually really interested. Seems like there's too much going on that I have no idea about.

Early on, it's ridiculously easy. But as you progress- probably starting around the last chapter of the 4 and 5 star beginning stories, it becomes more important to chain combos, dodge really fast, and stuff like that.
I've found that I can't rely on my usual "MASH BUTTONS HARD" strategy of fighting games, which is usually how I win at other games.

Many people tend to win this way. While you try to memorize attacks and use them, your opponent just keep pressing anything and finally win! Sucks... or maybe I just am not good at fighting game.
Anyway.

I saw this game for 10$ today. Wonder if I should buy it.

Well, the characters I've played so far. Warrior of light and Farion only have slow hp attacks.
Farion got the "arrow of something" which takes some time to do, and warrior of lich had some more "wide" hp attacks.
If only I fight an enemy who knows how to dodge - I'm in trouble 'cuz onyl luck will determine if the cpu is bad and don't avoid that hp attack arrow projectile thingy.

And what about healing in levels? Beside potions and the cure ability(which apparently can only be used once...)

As you level up, you get faster attacks. HP attacks are often slower than bravery ones, though, which is lame.
Firion pretty much bites the whole game, though, hence why he's getting a total rehaul for the upcoming sequel.

As for healing: when you're in ex mode, your HP regenerates, too.  There are accessories that boost the regen amount.

I started as Cloud and went from there. he was easy to learn with. I've palyed Zidane, Firion,Cecil, Tidus and a few evil stories...Jeckt being a main one can't remember the others.

But I gave my Bro my PSP so I can't play the game anymore.

Yeah I'm getting some more hang of this game now. Still a bit confused about this whole accessory creating in battles.
Also, is there some kind of global way to do chases? That's pretty much how I won most battles as WoL; the aerial bravery combo - and none of Firion's attacks initiate chase.

And lastly, what's up with those chests/summons hidden behind yellow tiles? It keeps saying that I need to complete some kind of mode to get it.
Speaking of mode, I didn't like that Command- battle style... Felt rather silly. KH Birth by sleep made it far better.

Global way? No, I don't think so-- every char gets chase moves eventually, but not all have them from the start.
The yellow squares go away once you beat the mode you're in.
So if you do WoL's story once, all the way through, when you redo it, the yellow squares go away. You can also spawn harder battles and more treasure by getting story points.
And uh. I don't get the battle gen thing either. I kind of ignore it.

Well that explains it.

Also, I kinda hate how they don't encourage you to actually fight. I spend turns to fight enemies and less turns left at the end means less points earned. No bonus at all for clearing a level of enemies and treasures.

Also, yeah. Battlegen - bad crap. The explanation made little sense as well. There's some chance shown in the beginning. But I usually break the bravery of whatever I'm facing and also deal hp damage (kinda hard to win otherwise) and still have only unlocked like 3 stuff. Breaking garland and WoL, dealing hp dmg to WoL.
Well, I'm still learning

The stuff starts piling up fast, even if you don't really try.
The issue is getting the specific things you need for certain items. Super annoying.
And yes, agreed. Unless they're the kind that gives DP back when you beat it a certain way, it's like "Oh hey, a fight! *avoid*"

Dodge.  Dodge a lot.  Once you get a good sense on how to dodge and block, you'll start doing better.  Onion Knight, Kefka, and Cloud of Darkness are superb.  My brother insists on using Terra and being a cheap prick sitting back and firing off magic from a safe distance.

As for Golbez... good luck.  I found that dodging in to him seems to work most efficient, if it makes sense, but I don't understand the mechanics as to why this is so.

I beat most characters no problamo. But Golbez and Exdeath are so annoying warping around and shooting stuff.
Also, there seems to be little to no way to avoid Genesis Rock other than not even being around in the first place. A

And being all WoL and stuff makes it kinda hard to keep away against a character like Golbez who shoot balls and punch me into the balls.
