Game idea

Figured I'd post this here instead of cluttering the Games section. (move if needed)

But I was just thinking of a new game idea, one I personally haven't seen much of (please let me know if I'm wrong)

But it would consist of a character traveling the multiverse after meeting up with someone from an alternate universe.
The main groups would consist of:
1. People who govern the multiverse, able to travel freely between any universe just by thinking of it (only those of the blood line may travel without restriction)
2. People who police it, given the ability to travel by the pantheon that governs (done through technology)
3. Regular people who travel with the help of those either illegally traversing the worlds or at the request of the to groups above.

VERY rough right now, as I'm mainly reading up on the multiverse and trying to get a feel as to how it should play out.
I think I may make it to where your character is killed off in another 'verse and after some events finds himself/herself going through each world.

Again i'll probably map this out better, but does this sound fun so far? With what little info is given, most likely will have an ABS style shooting system for battles.

    Sounds interesting, especially the vast differences between the alternative or connected multiverse's which will lead to endless possibility's. 
    I am thinking of making a fall out type rpg, after playing fall out 3 for awhile with a different era of technology more advanced in a universe of many planets that you can eventually travel to and from to.

Pretty nice man, sounds fun indeed.

I need to work out the idea a bit more, but jesus reading up on the M-theory, sting theory, and all that other nonsense that goes along with this is crazy, tyring to make it as 'real' as possible haha.

I plan on only having 11 different dimensions, or 26 not sure, but if it is the latter they will be small missions based on each. The string theory/m-theory says there is 11 dimensions or 26 from what I can see. All this science talk is starting to kill my head, haven't done anything like this in four years since my physics class when I did the chaos theory for a project.

I know that much haha. But i get what your saying. I just don't want to end up with a version of Jet Li's The One as a video game haha.
I think this is what typically gets me discouraged making games is the background info I typically go through, but its what helps me make a story. So far I've made is so that the ones who control all travel (above the police) don't need technology at all, they are in such an advanced state that they only need to picture the dimension thus being able to travel, it could be seen as they 'make' that dimension when they think of it, pretty much making these guys god-like in comparison to your character or so it would appear.

I was actually thinking of the one when I read this. You could involve a plot twist like that - some *** hole traveling from dimension to dimension to kill his image in that dimension.

Sounds cool, but be wary of relying too much on the ideas created by similar premises. You don't want people to look at your game and be like "Oh look, it's just like *insert popular world-traveling thing here*".
Otherwise it sounds awesome. Any ideas for gameplay elements?

Well, no not really haha.
So far I've got that travelling can be done easily between wrolds that more closely reflect ours. Such as Obama losing instead of winning for example. But say another world was based off the fact that the US never messed with Japan way back when, thus fire arms wouldn't have been introduced till later, it would be harder to travel there. Thus you would have to travel between more worlds until you were in a reality closely related to the one you needed to get to. (pretty much in the first example you could jsut travel straight there, in second you may need to go to three or four before you could get there)

Probably gonna do a little mini game or something that you do in between worlds. Trying to find some Tuts on Shooting style ABS games, but so far no luck.

I am feeling more of the plot being each reality/universe/world (whatever) is being destroyed and you happen to hinder the person doing so in your universe, thus you are asked to become an officer (trying to think of a cool name for agency) since they are running low on recruits.

You will gain ranks as you play or perform duties, these ranks unlock new weapons and such you are able to use.

I don't know everything is still rough, its hard to make it not remind you of something else since there aren't many books/comics/movies what have you, that use the multiple universe theme.
