The Cyton Tournament
« on: December 10, 2010, 11:46:43 PM »
This game is in the works (I read the rules, yet if I missed over something, and as such done something wrong, I apologize in advanced) yet it isn't yet ready to be shown in any ray of light. What I wanted to do, was first let people know the actual game ideas and story being put into 'The Cyton Tournament'.

You start out, outside of this old looking cave. Little upwards is a cliff, which houses a small home. This home belongs to the owner (you, the player) of the Ultimate Tournament. Where every the strongest fighters around the world, other worlds, alternate realities and such come together to fight for a spot on your Guard. Your Guard is the best of the best of the best, whom protect anyone for the right price. You are an 8,000 year old mystic, who is reincarnated every death. You're the 18th reincarnation of the royal line of 'True Mystics'. The Tournament has been going on for 5,000 years.

The game play shall go like this:

You watch the fights. You choose who you want to win. Then you watch it, and get either gold, or you lose gold. In some cases you choose who you want to fight, and CONTROL who you chose. I'll edit this when I get more information out and ready.

Also I went back and read again... (sorry, was chaotic here when I did read the first time) and this isn't enough to post what I had did. Can this be deleted? Sorry.

I'm not sure if it will be deleted, I mean we really want games here. I do like the concept of your game though sounds fun nothing I have seen before. Can't wait to see something.

I'll delete it you like, but if you're getting the impression from the rules that this isn't a good enough start for a game thread, than the rules are in error and need to be updated.

Most of the forum rules are, if I recall from what I've read, from a time where the mods were a bit power-crazy.
I wasn't here personally, but most others here were.

Anyways, about the game...
Honestly, there's not enough here for me to really be interested in it at all.
Right now, it sounds like a weird fighting game/theater thing.
Fluff it up a bit, make up some interesting gameplay quirks, characters, and whatnot.

Oh, the game will be edited up big time. This was the general story and such for it. I'd rather not just throw out my 'ideas' as of yet, due to it isn't yet placed into the game.

Ever heard of/seen/ played the game called 'Sunset over Imdahl? Know of the Art? I'm doing the same thing. Not the exact same thing, but how the buildings and such are made and placed on it. Just trying to get hold of my friend so he can draw it up.

Also if it is okay, then I rather keep this up.

While this is here and while I'm at it, anyone wanna help me plot out each person's background story as to why they are there? Like I'll have Chrono Trigger characters, Link, Digimon characters, pokemon characters, DBZ Characters and so on. Final Fantasy 1 through 9.

My plan is that you play as the main guy, do as I mentioned above, and then the final person you fight with and win, you play as them, learn more of their story and go through the game with them.

I'm actually not too keen on the idea myself, sorry.  People tend to play rpgs for the plot and/or the character development (personality and stats).  Watching a bunch of strangers fight and making blind choices on the outcomes sounds kinda boring, as does controlling a character which you haven't helped raise.  Add the fan characters you just mentioned and you don't even get to meet interesting new personalities.

That's just one opinion though, others here seem to be interested so I'm probably just not your target audience :p

I don't want to explain why I'm doing it this way, cause it would give away the ending of the game that I've got planned, but I guess it won't hurt to say more.

The idea is to add an interactive feature to it, so it isn't just one set character that you play as. If you WIN with the one you choose, you get them. It means you have a chance of playing as...hundreds of characters. But the point of this so called 'random character thing' is more so, the guy you start out as if actually the main villain. He plans on getting all of the toughest fighters together, and the true plan is to kill them, put magic in their bodies and control them, so that he can control every world, universe, alternate reality and such with no trouble from the fighters that wish to protect it. With no free will or mind of their own, they have nothing but their power, controlled by him. But the one you win with, or WATCH win is who you play as in the end of the tournament, to try to stop him. Each reincarnation of this guy adds more power to him. I wanna adjust the time the world has been created, so that his first previous life was the first 'human' the devil created. It adds a slight 'religious' feel only in that part. Say 'God' made people, why not the Devil, too? Well he made this guy, and every new life is him, but even more powerful. I wanted to make him an all knowing super villain, that has been around since nearing the beginning of time itself. Say they have a limited life span of 120,000 years, and this is the 200th reincarnation. I wanted to imply this world has been around for a super long, long time, and each life of this person, they are trying to do a plan to take over, so their next life has an easier time taking over/ ruling.

Not sure what you all are thinking, but if it sounds as if I'm on here, with no game, asking for help on ideas, that isn't it. I got it down, but with my many characters, figured I'd ask the community how to go about some background stories for some of them.

It went from an ok game to, not so good. If you want an original game dont add the fan character.

I sayy.... If you want to add fan characters you should do it. This is your game, you can do whatever you want with it. but just so you know, people here on charas tend to be dismissive of games with fan characters in it.

My advice, fan characters can be okay, as long as fan characters don't make up the majority of the playable characters. The story is fine, sounds like a lot to explain in a single breath. So, just keep that bit to yourself.
