Charas MMO
« on: May 10, 2011, 09:00:13 PM »
It couldn't be THAT hard to set one up, right?

Nothing to complex, obviously. But it would promote the generators, which are supposed to be this site's main feature. Anybody can upload a generated character design and use it as their avatar. Maps made in rpg maker with an emphasis on adventure, exploration, and treasure hunting.

As far as combat goes, the complete uniqueness of everyone's avatar would make it impossible to give everyone a battle animation, but... If we go the way of gauntlet and just have projectiles, people could customize their characters to throw weapons and cast spells.

I know nothing about coding and MMO stuff, but I wouldn't mind leading the creative aspect of it. I have a lot of ideas, but no ability to do such things.

Nah.

If someone wants to actually do the hard work of coding this up, then sure. But otherwise nah.

I don't think we as a community have ever completed a game, ever.

This would require an engine to compile user chosen parts into a charaset to use in game. That would be, in other words, rather complicated in itself.

Sure, this would be really cool, but like most projects, its just far too ambitious.

Of course, if you think can get a simple beta of this running, I'd gladly help. RMXP is you're best bet because of its on mmo capabilities. I don't know too much about rmxp tho so you're gonna have to do your own research.

This is a classic newbie trap.

MMOs are one of the most popular game types for newbies to try and make, and they will always fail because these are really, really, really goddamn hard to make.
There is a ton to do for this, so unless we get some really good programmers, this likely isn't going to happen.
Instead, we probably need a charas themed RPG (like that thing Sai was doing a while back*), or something like that.

No offence meant.
It's just that MMOs are a TON of work.
Hell, even coding in proper multiplayer can take you forever to do.
Until we get some more experienced coders...I'm sorry, this just isn't going to happen.

Yeah, it tends to be a popular bandwagon to jump on. People either wanna make an MMORPG
or some super-expansive over-the-top RPG with more choices than real life. I wish people would
set more realistic goals.

This here is what I meant by "Common newbie trap"
Think small at first, then slowly become more ambitious.
That reason is why I've never published a game, because I fell for it too.

I kind of lost interest in that when everyone decided to be jerks at me on like the same day. But I think my premise was unusally sound.
