Space Heroes [Complete] Made in webGL
« on: December 21, 2011, 10:38:46 PM »
Alrighty, I just finished another game. It is made in webGL and can be run in Chrome or Firefox on Windows, Mac, or Linux. The fonts can get messed up a bit if you use firefox, but everything is still readable. The system requirements aren't too high, but the game may be laggy in the solar system stage if you have a really old computer or if you don't have a graphics card.

You can play it here: http://graphics.cs.wisc.edu/Courses/Games11/Proj3/grp5/

Everything besides start game, instructions, and about are other menu options we needed for the class. You can just ignore them, or if you "really" want to check out our project plan and such, go for it.

Space Heroes is a game set in space. You play against an AI player to try and conquer the galaxy. You control fleets of ships, and can build more fleets or add various units to fleets by buying ships in the solar system. It implements a tactical battle system for battles.

There really isn't a plot. At all. So I'll just throw up some screenies to show off the features. This game was made in a month for my class from scratch in notepad, so don't expect anything too fancy lol.

Heroes of might and magic in space, huh? Sounds neat.

I take it it won't run at all in IE?

Yup that was pretty much the idea, though the game also resembles a game called "Masters of Orion" as well.

As of now, it will not run in IE. Parts of the game are in 3D and programmed with webGL. Sadly IE does not support webGL and it doesn't look like they are planning to support it any time soon. I guess there is an IEwebGL plugin for IE, but I have never tried it out.

This actually looks quite decent. I'll see if I can get Dom to play it with me to give some feedback.

Yeah no sound :( We weren't allowed to use any material we ourselves didn't make, and trust me, no sound is definitely a lot better than music I could have made lol
