Pokémon Conquest and oooog's Avatar change
« on: June 23, 2012, 12:10:08 AM »
First thread started in literally a billion years, and what a surprise it's Pokémon related.

Now, I had acquired this game purely on a whim.  I was at Gamestop picking up my copy of Gravity Rush (a title worth mentioning), when despite my prior insistence I noticed on the counter an advertisement for Pokémon Conquest.  A feeling emerged that had forced it's way from my very soul to every spiritual center on my person, and with every fiber of my being I shouted in a quite moment of passion... "Goddammit, put $5 down on this freaking game."  I also hesitantly put $5 down on Black 2.  I'm going to be forced into a few 50+ hour shifts so I'll have some disposable income that would probably be better spent on Dos Equis, but I had a case in the fridge already.

A week later, I had payed off the remainder $32 and brought the game home.  In between repairing my friends laptop I played a little.  Now, I've always liked Pokémon, and have been saying for several years they need to release this series with a new battle mechanic, perhaps even borrowing a lesson from titles such as Final Fantasy Tic-Tacs and Disgaea.  And lo' Nintendo said it shall be so.  Although I've been trying to quit the series, I entered the game with cautious optimism.  I played through the tutorial battles with cautious optimism and was mildly entertained.  It was not a full-on arousal experience like I had received the first time I played Dragon's Dogma (another title worth mentioning), but it promised entertainment.

Now, about 15 hours later in my first save file, I can say with absolute certainty, this game deserves the most powerful and inspiring... "meh."  It delivers what it promises and has a few quirks here and there that garner interest like many titles, but ultimately this game is a mediocre tactics game with the Pokémon franchise behind it much like... well... almost every main franchise that breaks away from it's typical playstyle in an attempt to try something different.  Or movie to game adaptations.  Oh how I despise many of these titles.

So, in the end, all I can say is Nintendo... I appreciate you trying to breath new life in to this by-all-means-should-be-dead-but-still-somehow-going-strong-thanks-to-consumers-such-as-myself-with-no-social-life-and-disposable-income series, but for the love of whoever you may worship... give us a freaking console Pokémon that plays like a Pokémon.  I can't speak for everyone else, but I don't want anymore got-damned Colosseum-esque Gamecube game.  You have a new system coming out with a screen controller to make full use for this style.  Use it.

Not really, nintendo's idea, per se. But since the beginning of the game's announcement, it was meh.

I honestly was intrigued by the idea at first, but it was lacking that defining quality to make it stand out.  As a tactics game, the series could survive, but based on this title I'm hesitant to believe they will be brave enough to give it another crack.

I actually had just made it a few hours ago.  I figured it was high time for an upgrade.

I demand that this thread be renamed to something related to oooog's avatar change.

It is done.  It is quite magnificent after all, far superior to the original topic.

I'm cautious about changes in avatar system within the oooog series.  I've only ever really enjoyed the traditional avatar systems, and whenever oooog deviates from that I end up not being that interested.

I feel your pain, which is why I've decided to include 4 of the original in my signature.

As far as forum avatars containing pictures of cats with a multicoloured glow effect as an outline placed over a moving panorama
backdrop goes, I'd say I'm a bit of a connoisseur. And that, my friend, is pretty damn good!!
