British Olympics opening ceremony.

They made a bunch of celebrities act as their famous characters (last James Bond pretended to be excorting the Queen, Mr. Bean did a comedy number pretending to be part of the orchestra, there were a bunch of Mary Poppins at one bit, so on.)

David Tennant is the 10th(?) Doctor. In one episode, around two years ago, he traveled to the future (today), and lighted the olympic torch in the last second.

If they got him to do that again, I'd die a happy nerd.

They couldn't have had a culture icon light the torch; it would have devalued the entire thing. Steve Redgrave did it; or he handed it over to young'ns who did it.  He's an epic ex- rower who's a bit of an olympic hero.

Dude, the Olympics are already devalued.
It stopped being about sports and fitness and the apex of humanity or some ****, and started being about merchandising the hell out of the Olympic brand a loooong time ago.
Hence why the Olympics association sued a bunch of old ladies for naming a charity knitting competition "The Knitting Olympics".
