Charas Minecraft Server and Youtubz channel

SO. I've been tossing around this idea for a few weeks, bouncing ideas off my friend. There's two main concepts, a youtube channel and a minecraft server. In the next week I should have my desktop fixed and up and running. If a minecraft server were to happen, it would be best if I could get a hand figuring out all the details on how hosting maps works. Also, buying server space is a possibility if it's affordable and used. I would also be wary about hosting a public charas server on my own computer, though it might not be as big a deal, or maybe have separate maps. Again, for this idea, I'd need some help in planning.

The second idea is a youtube channel. I was going to start one anyways and realized Charas might have a lot to offer to a youtube account. From let's plays to reviews of member's games to video tutorials to even a weekly or monthly news update. Also, I thought it would be fun to have a special charas minecraft event where we just figure out a time that's good and play one of the maps. There are some fun pvp maps we could play and throw up on the youtube for more views.

So, all that said. What do you guys think? Any suggestions are more than welcome. I'm open to just posting a bunch of videos and turning this into a community kind of thing. People could start their own webseries or work cooperatively on one. As long as people have video editing software and recording equipment, there's a lot we can do with this. I remember this idea being kind of thrown around a bit a year ago, but never went anywhere.

I like em both. I actually plan on releasing a few projects I did myself.

Nice. LP or review of either of those would be good. Either you could do it or someone else, I'm not too sure how the youtube channel should be structured. I think winging it a bit isn't a bad idea. I won't pretend I have a ton of experience editing and recording videos and commentating.

I think this could be a really cool idea. It would help liven things up a bit in the forums and get people working together on stuff. We could even upload felix's Rm2k3 skins to give
it a proper charas feel!

i imagined no one playing there own game. maybe some leeway to showcasing your game, but i imagined more of.lp and reviews. it might be expedient to decide upon some scoring system for reviews so every review is comparable and providing a consistent feel for each review. lps are obviously exempt but could be followed up with review videos. and obviously only so much can be done to limit bias but as long as reviewers keep this in mind it shouldnt be a big issue.

I really do like this idea, so I don't want to sound like I'm bashing it or anything... but who here is actually willing to do these videos? I mean, the community is very lifeless and there have been plenty of demos posted recently that few people have played, much less so reviewed.

I guess what I am getting at is unless someone is highly dedicated to making these lp videos, not much will change. If it works however I do agree that the community should become more lively.

I played your tech demo. The Pixel by Pixel movement is really awesome. I'm kind of envious ; n;

As for reviews. I'm slowly yet slowly warming up to RPG Maker again. I've abandoned 2k3 though, I'm just way too behind in the abilities of others.

I plan on making a nice XP Game in the same manner as Death Proclaimed/ Silent Hill.
Reasons Why.

As with RPGs. The characters have too much depth, you have to create a bunch of NPCs, make huge pointless houses and rooms just for depth, but serve very little purpose.
As with a horror/survival game. you have little Stats/levels to work with. You have your weapons, your health, medkits, and enemies. That's all. You don't have over 30+ enemies, and you can keep things small and simple. Allowing for very fluent development with programs such as BlizzAbs. Which handles the combat for you. I'll be releasing a thread for it in the upcoming month once I feel it's in an uploadable state.  [/spoiler]

I wouldn't feel bad about having an accent. Several people from here are from Europe and I know for a fact that a few of the more active members back in the day were British

And yes, while horror games don't focus on exploration as much as an rpg would, they do focus more on atmosphere, so you DO have to work harder in some areas.
I will be most happy to play your horror game if it doesn't just use darkness and cheap lighting to make an atmosphere though. Alone: Cold Winter comes to mind as a good rm game that is horror styled that I enjoyed.

Felix, if you have an accent, you MUST do reviews or let's plays...or at least give them a try. Accents are awesome. 

I'm...well...kind of tempted to volunteer to try, but I still have a few CGR's sitting around in my inbox that I never got around to a year ago or so when they were sent to me. I do have more time and more privacy than I did back then, so it might be a more distinct possibility now. I never liked recording reviews or doing Natako Sings recordings when my roommates were around, but now I'm back home with all the privacy I need so I might be able to get into doing some stuff again. Maybe I should try to do those old crappy games first and make sure that I actually have the time to do it this time around...
