Dark Souls

Just gonna throw this out there in hope of someone taking the bait.

Great game and all. Got it on PC so I have to survive Windows live and some wonky controls.

It kinda reminds me of all those old games, freedom, complete confusion of where to go, items with effects rather than "clean stats", trial and error.

You have bonfires that act as checkpoints if you die, this is also where you heal up, restore your potions, level up, upgrade equipment, handle items and spells ect. But when you die or rest at the bonfire all the enemies respawn.

Been playing this for some time now but got stuck in the Duke's Archive. There's this boss that can't be harmed and I can't find a way to deplete his immortality, been searching that place forever now. I kinda don't want to use a guide or a wiki or anything. Just to add to that "old school" feeling that the game gives me. Y'know, how it was back in the days when you couldn't find the solution to the problem simply by typing it into google.

Anyway, great game. Takes some patience though.

Is it more or less difficult than demon souls? Because I enjoyed demon souls, but really hated how easily you could die and be set back TONS of time, so I never gave dark souls a try.

Word on the streets is it's just as difficult. I have yet to play either game.

Well apparently there was this health related penalty for dying in Demon souls. This is gone in dark souls, if you die you get all zombiefied, this basically just means that you can't boost the bonfires until you restore your humanity. And humanity gives curse resistance as well. That's about it.
And well, your collected souls are left at your "body" where you died. So you have to get back there and pick em up.

Usually find a lot of bonfires, and doors and stuff you can open to create shortcuts, helps a lot. But sometimes you get sent back quite a bit.

Curse on the other hand halves your hp, and it's a real hassle to get rid of that curse.

I watched a friend, you older older older older members might remember him as "El Presidente", get up to a rooftop bossfight, at which point he ragequit. That was a fun day.
I didn't get nearly as far.

The gorgoyles? Heard people ragequitting over them, not all that hard. Sever the tails and their range is pretty much gone, stabb them with a huge axe and roll to avoid the attacks.
Bosses and even normal enemies gets far worse later on. And I love it, hate games where normal enemeis are merely punching bags.

Yes well I was trying to be spoiler friendly but yes the GARGOYLES ON THE ROOF, PLURAL. He'd be okay until the second one showed up, then he would be raped to death.

I beat the game today, a worthy last boss that gave me much of a fight. Just a bit sad that the game ended after beating it. I still had not explored everything, or rather: found everything. Seeing how the PC version got the DLC there should have been some "new boss and a dragon" that I missed.
