Bioshock Infinite Ending (spoilers obviously)
« on: April 18, 2013, 04:57:12 PM »
Wondering what you guys all thought of it beyond an emotional level. To be honest I was kind of confused by it so wondering what other theories/interpretations or questions there were.
Booker went back and killed himself because of the harm Comstock would do. But if Comstock never existed, then Booker never would have gone back and killed himself... which would mean that Comstock existed again...right? Or am I missing something?

Also was Booker put back into his old body when he did this? I would assume like killing Comstock he'd have to kill another version of himself. Maybe unless it was his own timeline? Not sure how that works.

Also wondering if maybe the only timeline left at the end is the one where he doesn't give Anna up? Or is it every timeline where he didn't get baptized? Was it just one Booker-Who-Didn't-Accept-Baptism that died? Or was it all of them? I guess he never accepted it, since he killed himself so then he never accepted/denied it but jut drowned...but then Anna was never born if he died? So what's with the ending?
I'm feeling like there's only reality that can be left remaining but I'm not sure what it is...perhaps the one where he never went to the river in the first place?
Alternate universes and time travel make things so confusing...

SPOILERS:

Basically, Comstock's origin was erased. However, Booker's was not, and he still continued to exist in other timelines. The post-credits is showing him with what is presumed to be his baby, in a timeline that Comstock never existed (thus the baby and debt are still present).
All timelines that Comstock is in are still existant. However, once all Comstocks die, no more will be made, thus ending the cycle.

It heavily hints that this is the 112th time that the pair of goofs brought Booker into a different timeline to try to correct his mistake (the biggest indicator being the Coin Flip), meaning several Bookers have tried and died in the process (making more sense of the revival system).

Cool. That makes a lot of sense, but what is it that allows Booker to make a different decision (to drown himself), and to actually be in his old body, rather than to encounter Booker/Comstock in the old timeline as a different person?

Essentially, future versions of you all die off in a way that ends the cycle, leaving one instance of Booker and his daughter to grow
up fine with no complications.

Anyway, this explains everything in unparalleled detail. Kind of never made me realise how water-tight the plot line was. Absolute masterpiece of a game!
