Burlesque Singing
« on: May 24, 2013, 05:02:50 AM »
Yeah so...that's a thing I do now...

Kind of a big step for me because I never sing in public as myself. Have always done it as a character in musical theatre, so there's this whole level of self consciousness that's really new to me. Wanted to share my performances with you guys :) So here they are from best to worst.

Performance 3:
Reveal Me @ The Rivoli - Emi Joy Lim (BEST ONE!)
Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree, and If I Were a Bell

Performance 2: Reveal Me @ The Rivoli - Emi Pyre (2/2)
Actually really liked this one. Sang Cabaret

Reveal Me @ The Rivoli - Emi Pyre (1/2)
Dream a Little Dream of Me
(It was okay. Some tech problems though. The jerk who walks in late and makes everyone get up at 2:40 is my boyfriend btw...)

Performance 1 (UGH. WORST ONE) : Babes in Space 3DD - Emi Pyre
Okay, it's not great. My first time doing this. Also I had about a day's notice to throw something together (the singer cancelled).
Sang Fly Me to the Moon, and a really really horrible rendition of Weird Al's Saga Begins. Why did I sing a song I was bad at?
Think of it this way: I forced a couple hundred people to listen to me sing the Weird Al song that kids at school used to tease me for having memorized and singing all the time.
But yeah...it was written for a man, so...was kinda all over the place vocally.

You look like my grandmother.
edit: when she was young. You don't look like you're 80.

Well, that was unexpected and awesome.
You have a really beautiful voice, Zerl.
ed: Not that your voice being beautiful was unexpected.
i am good at people skills

As a random slightly uncomfortable sidenote:
I was planning on going to a burlesque on my 21st birthday.
I've thought for a while now that they look like fun.

Looks like you had fun doing all this. The background kinda reminds me of bioshock.

You're great at this, but frankly, I find burlesque to be very creepy. Not sure why, but it gives me some major heebie-jeebies.

I'll be honest, that surprised me.
Seemed like it'd be your kind of thing.

I expected surprise. It's an uncharacteristic response, I know, but one can't help how one feels about certain things.

Thanks! You should totally go for your 21st bday. It's more classy than a strip club and girls enjoy going too (assuming you have female friends). My only advice is DON'T FEEL AWKWARD. It's not a strip club so you don't need to sit in silence (in fact it looks weird). Those girls/guys are up there because they want to be, not because they're being paid to be (though that part's nice), and they love applause and cheering. Don't be afraid to cheer, and whistle and shout, just don't say anything too offensive...there's a bit of a decorum to going to a burlesque show. Cheer but don't be disrespectful, though. These girls have lots of skill so you should enjoy it :)

Yeah...quite consistent with his character he forgot to show up to the last show -_-.

Thanks, MIC. I'm thinking of doing something Bioshock themed next time, just trying to figure out how (Beyond the Sea probably, and then something else...)

He's actually awesome! It was a Star Wars vs Star Trek burlesque night so he was dressed as a wookie jedi XD.

Really curious as to why. It's not like the circus or anything, just girls in pretty costumes.

I was actually about to comment on the Jedi myself.

Your worst one isn't that bad to be honest. Maybe because you're such good eye candy. /creepy attempt at a compliment >_>

Also it depends on how classy the strip club is. Some of them can do amazing things.
