Perhaps forcing the white list is the best option now? Can you add all of us and get back to playing again?

Day Two: Bustling City

So after a bit of mining, I've found a decent supply of diamond and an unhealthy level of silverfish. How terrible. Instead of being productive, we ended up making a lovely little hand-built town near the spawn for villagers to populate. Given the custom nature of the world, we had to create our own town if we ever wanted to see any villagers. The end result is frankly too good for them, and I'm quite jealous of their digs. The town may be growing too quickly, and it seems likely that a sudden crime spree by an unnamed clock tower sniper may be on the horizon...

Speaking of clock towers, there's a lovely one that doesn't really tell time too well, but it acts as a giant nightlight and looks pretty cool.

EDIT: I've also completely neglected to mention the odd few minutes where two randoms infiltrated the server and, despite not causing too much damage, did manage to ransack a few chests before Dren shut things down.

Wait, so you don't need at least one villager to populate a village?

Considering the artificial nature of the world, we did cheat a little by going into creative mode to make the town and villagers. It was only because of the complete lack of any naturally spawning villages or villagers, but I will admit that we did cheat. We'll likely do it again for other fun things like more villages, dungeons, or other things that simply cannot exist without us making it ourselves on this world.

Similarly, since it seems unlikely that any generated loot chests will exist, we'll probably set up some kind of system to supply everyone with loot-only items like saddles and horse armor. We've agreed to keep the creative mode stuff to a minimum, but it'll happen again.

Oh, I see. Yeah, I guess that's alright since there's some stuff that we'd just be unable to obtain otherwise.

Still weird about no generated stuff. Discovering towns and underground mine shafts and things are a lot of the fun of that game.

Indeed. It's the biggest drawback to this kind of world.

The reason I didn't include generated structures was because of the sea level. A lot of the world is only at around 35y. I couldn't change the way mines and other structures generated, so the oceans were littered with abandoned mineshafts. I wanted to keep them in, but I couldn't.

EDIT: There appears to be a bukkit plugin (worldedit) which allows me to manually insert dungeons, mineshafts, and all other generated structures where ever. I could use it to go around the world and put a bunch of stuff everywhere. I mean, that's probably the best we're gonna get. I think I might do that.

Day Three: The Vending Machine

So I made a vending machine that dispenses saddles. It's pretty much pointless now that Dren's found a way to put generated structures into the terrain, but it was fun to build anyway. I might keep it as a kind of lottery system where I fill it with goodies and let random chance decide if you win or lose. I also tied all the village's Iron Golems to the front of every house to A.) Keep them from wandering off and leaving the town defenseless, and B.) Make them far better at killing threats in record time by always being near a door. As for personal development, I've finally decided on where I want to build my estate, and I wrangled a quality steed.

So it was you who tethered the Golems! lol, I was so confused. You do know that it's golems nature to stay near villagers. They don't wander off, BUT, keeping them close to the doors is a smart move.

Update on generated structures. There are now currently a tons of mineshafts south of spawn and elsewhere. Multiple pyramids in the massive desert. Tons of dungeons including 'super dungeons' which are really just multiple dungeons next to each other or around a chasm or large cave or randomly in the ground. Spawning villages proved problematic. Because of Minecraft's code, they don't like to spawn  anywhere below 64 blocks.... so yeah. There is one jungle temple? I just didn't do much with that, some witch huts, and one stronghold. That's right, there's a stronghold.

I'll fix the nether and add more dungeons and witch huts later. For now, I'm tired of typing "/gen ms".

Also, as a general rule (I'm gonna update the front page with all these little notes soon enough) mineshafts are only found in mountains since they spawn between 20 and around 45 blocks. If I were to spawn them where ever, they'd be on top of the ocean, which is obviously aesthetically bad. So yeah, Mineshafts can only be found in large mountains! And there are a lot of mountains to explore.

Trust me, they're tied there for a reason. They didn't wander far, but they definitely did leave the town undefended for several nights in a row. The entire population was killed off while they were dicking around in the pond or wandering out behind the village.

Only one lucky soul was spared. I had to repopulate the village myself. I'm sure there's no sexual connotation to what I've just said, either.
