Hello this is both an introduction and a question.
« on: April 07, 2014, 04:56:22 PM »
I came across the chars website while looking for free graphics to be used in a commerical game I'm trying to build and I decided to join this forum.

Anyway my question, which I would have gladly posted in the help support and question forum at the top of the main forums index but there was no new topic button in that forum >:(, is if I were to use the base sprite sets like the body and eyes in a commerical game meaning one I'm going to try to sell would it be legal to do so? By base sets I mean I'll go into the generator select a body then select eyes and save the sheet so I can add custom clothes/armor/hair to it. I'm good at spriting things like tress, building, 2d final fantasy style monsters, etc. but have difficulty spriting human movement so the base body and eyes will be used as an outline.

If I can do this do I need to give credit to whomever made the resources I mentioned above?
If so how could I find out who I need to credit?

Well, let's see.
The people who made the maker made the RTP (base) resources as well I believe.

But if you only steal the body shape and the way the eyes look but don't make them look like the same style, it's probably cool. But don't take my word for it, who knows if enterbrain cares about this.

My advice is that even though you use this body as a base, alter it in some ways to make it yours. Shape of the head, length of the legs, remove some pixels, add some pixels. Until you have something that has a clear movement animation but is your own.

Pretty much if you can copy the outline of what of the copyrighted sprites have over the outline of a sprite you made, you can't sell it legally.
Changing the height by one pixel is a pretty easy way of solving this.

Huh? I was thinking of going that route kinda tweak it until its my own style... just wanted to make sure about the legallity before I proceeded.
Trust me the sprites won't look like enterbrain's when I'm done with them.

On another not what is with the 20 questions on posting?
What's next do you want me to email a thumb print? The Captcha is enough in my opinion.
Pick a clearer Captcha because I can hardly make it out and not all letters are visible, have to use the audio version everytime!

It's a heavy-handed anti-bot measure. It goes away after your first few posts (I think it's ten posts, but I'm not sure). Once you hit, say, 14,000 posts, you'll have long forgotten about it (though the system wasn't in place when I joined, so that's irrelevant).
