Controls really come down to preference.

That being said, I prefer the PS4 Dual Shock 4 controllers. You can do all sorts of neat stuff with them such as controlling the computer cursor with the touchpad built onto the controller, and they're very comfortable with a great D-pad.

However, unless you don't mind Direct Input (Which works quite well for an alarming number of games.) you need a program such as DS4windows that enables x-input emulation, making it compatabile with near 100% of games that recognize Xbox 360 controls. The one downside is that sometimes it's a pain to set up initially, and instead of Playstation button prompts within games, often you'll get Xbox ones.

Super Smash Bros. has always been addictive to me. It was one of the first N64 games I owned. It's just one of those games that blew my mind being able to play a game with both Mario and Link in it. To this day the newer additions still have the same effect especially with Cloud Strife entering the mayhem. Games like these are what I consider legendary. You don't need top notch graphics or an epic storyline for these games, the gameplay and features is what makes them shine.
Playing games online as opposed to LAN or 2-4 player on one screen is like comparing apples and oranges. I much rather prefer playing Super Smash Bros. with some friends in the same room. The world we live in today is at a point where social interaction is secondary, which is sad. We even have a whole generation of kids growing up (I'm going to use my younger brother and his "friends" as an example on this.) that has rarely ever played a multiplayer video game with more than one person with him (physically).
I think we need more games that focus more on same-screen multiplayer as opposed to just LAN or Online. Most of my closest friends and I created our bond with just that. We've had personal adventures, even massacred other teams on certain online games like Gears of War online multiplayer, us playing splitscreen, and even saved the princess of hyrule with the four of us.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy online gaming (probably more than some), even now I'm playing an MMO that's bringing back alot of nostalgia from yesteryear with some fresh new mechanics called Tree of Savior. Still, in the back of my mind I miss the days before online gaming was such a big thing. We could just use a little more balance of the two. Hell, from reports I've seen about Call of Duty players, there is more players that have admitted that they skip the campaign and go straight to online. That in my opinion is a waste of a game. I've had my time being a CoD addict, but these days when a new one comes out, the campaign is usually what I play. Online multiplayer has lost its luster with that game.

So the first opportunity to really try out the new games went great. Hooked up the tv and the controllers (wireless ones as well) and we played Towerfall, nidhog and Crawl. Took a break from that eventually to play some mario kart and then runbrow. In the end we sat down in the kitchen and played some boardgames as well. So the variety was good.

Towerfall is a great game, fast paced battle with different powerups and stages. I guess having stocks is the one thing I miss in this. Having just one life makes you value it more of course but sometimes fights can be pretty short. Might get the dlc as well.

Crawl was an interesting game, I totally dig the concept and the execution with the old school look. But we reached a point where the hero could kill the monsters pretty easily and so it got kinda one sided towards the end. Still a good few hours spent.

Nidhog is nidhog, it's exciting and competitive, some insults were thrown and a lot of cheering. But then you have a match that lasts for 30minutes and you are fed up with it for a while.

I'll keep looking into some of the other games to try out, I did try Expendabros the Broforce spinoff and that was real fun.

Had another go with the new games I purchased.

Broforce is a great game, well done and the sprite work is rad. It just gets annoying that you can't choose characters more during stages. Noone likes McBrover when you get better characters. Everything else was great, explosions, really forgiving maps and such.

Megabyte punch is pretty good, but there is a glitch that makes you fall through platforms that gets annoying. Also, you need to play the "adventure mode" to unlock parts to use in multiplayer, then save a preset with the parts, colours and moves you want. The only problem is that only 1 player can look through the inventory and load/save presets at a time.

Duck game, it's great. Simple as that. Fast paced, death matches. Kinda reminds me of towerfall but less controll of the duck. Also, you have to find things to kill each other with. Most maps seems random and it's first to 10.

McBrover is amazing if used right but you need a good team :D

Also, Brominator is effing crazy. You basically fire left to build momentum then jump and you can propel yourself through entire levels in seconds with your ultimate.

Can't decide on a favourite character atm though, probably Anderbro though! Who do you prefer?

I kinda like the melee bros like Brade and Brochete since they can deflect bullets. They are however not as great against enemies with more hp like bosses
