Lol thats a great start!

Anyway in my current game I have a movie scene that takes place 3 years before the actuall game starts. In the movie it shows your main hero inside a glowing crystal, with some mages examining it. The cystal stops glowing, at that time one of the mages hits the crystal with a lightning spell in hopes of getting it to glow again. (when it glows it give off a certain energy). Then there is some brief text telling more about what happened when the mage zapped the crystal, and some events that took place in the three years.

At this point the movie ends, and you build your character.

The game then continues with one of the mages zapping the crysal once more (it needs to be zapped regularly in oder for it to keep its energy), but this time the crystal shatters, and your main character is out of the crystal.

If you need any help coming up with an intro, post some info on what your game is about, and what you want to occer in the intro, and maby I or someone else can help you.

That wasnt very nice.. It was just a simple question..

Edit: In reply to Dragon's post: Dude, that sounds awesome! I wish I could think up of something like that.. See, I've had RPG maker for quite some time now, but i've never thought to look for any resources online. Now that I find this place with all its.. Character generating (A Godsend! Thanks Alex!) my games all sound incredibly outdated. >< So I was just scouting around looking for ideas for intros. By the way, thanks for the reply.

If you've played alot of RPG games you'd either get a clip from the main character's past or future.
If I were making an RPG (different one) I'd start off with the main character having his beliefs, opinions, and troubles shown.  In FF10, they kinda do that in the beginning.  There's also another type of intro where you have the main character, or someone who looks like the main character doing something heroic, exciting, admiring, etc.  It depends on how you want to start the game.  Either you start it with a good atmosphere or a bad one is completely up to you.  Me, I would start out a game with good things getting ruined, but again, it's your choice

Check out "The Path to a Great RPG-Step 3" for mine.

Here's the three projects I'm currently working on:
Chrome Tide goes like this:
The hero is lying in bed in a inn. He's tossing and turning. The screen zooms in to his head, then you are in his dream, a small playable part. At the end of this, you talk to a girl, and as you are talking to her, she slowly disappears. When she's all gone, you walk off the cliff, and you are back at the inn, and the hero has fallen off the bed. Then it cuts to a small credit scene, with the hero walking around different landscapes, as if in wonder.

nhify: The Insanity Continues is simple.
Against a black background, the hero (Celsius) is talking about what happened in hfygs: The Craziness Begins. But it's completely nuts, like this:
"Hello. Last time you left me, I was...

...a guy. With blue hair. At least, we thought I was a guy.
You see, when  I was born, everyone thought I was a girl with a winkle..."
And so forth. It ends up talking about onions, then cuts to Celsius in the place he finished hfygs in.

Golden Angel
The main character (Tanishi) is in the forest with his bird, Burung. He tells about some "unpleasantness" he had when he was living in a town. Then it cuts to a black-and-white flashback of him in the town. After completing the town, you find him in the park, with the whole town gathered there.
I won't spoil the rest.

I was just joking around. But I have no one way to open a story. I change my intros depending on the overall story. I try to get something that fits the story and can open it up.

There's a black screen with credits and the classic FF prelude. Then a nice pic I've made where the name of the game are. Then you see a bounch of soldiers who're 'bout to invade a small village while you get information 'bout the Empire and stuff. Then the hero starts in the middle of the village unknown to which horror he'll soon experience...

This is a good topic.

My sci-fi game has a shuttle launch as its intro sequence, complete with the countdown.

I like to start my intros with an explanation of the backstory, which explains why everyone and everything is like it is. It just makes sense to me.
