Voyage to Zircalon
« on: June 25, 2004, 04:04:06 AM »
It's my first (no, I'm lying, it's not my first, but it's the first one that has promise of being released) game.  Then I had the gall to do it in RPG Maker 2003!  For me, 2K3 is tougher to program in:o  Saikar did one of my heroes' battlechar... All hero charsets (and some NPCs) were done in Charas.
I still haven't worked out monsters, weapons, etc. and I'm hunting for some chipsets.  But it's progressing, I think, as much as it can in these days.

Since you say you are a soon to be published author, I'm looking forward to this game. If you have programming questions (anything besides CBS and CMS basically), I can always help.

Hi Sonic, my book's already out.  And it has zilch to do with this game.  The only thing they have in common is that both main characters are female.   :sweet:

Here's where to find it:  http://www.publishamerica.com/books/4873

Thanks for the help offer, I might take ya up on that.  I know ZILCH about CBSs or CMSs, the only reason I did the game in 2K3 is cause I didn't want to do a CBS...LOL

^Revolution, I'm hardly making time for it myself.  That's part of the reason why I haven't finished it.  Obviously I'm still learning the graphix part of the equation, and then there's the small matter of the codes...LOLOL

Araloth, it's in the RPG Maker 2000 RTP!  I just imported it into 2003.  LOLOL

It looks like it will be a sci-fi game, but you haven't told us a story yet! Do tell!

^Red Giant, I've got most of the story down (but I'm still working on it), any and all comments and suggestions are appreciated.

As I said in another thread, my opening sequence is the actual shuttle launch, as best as I could replicate it.

There isn't much to it, except there are these three young astronauts, part of a young astronaut program, who have landed on planet Zircalon, which had been recently discovered.   Each astronaut is from a different country.  Rebecca DeLorean, 15, is from the United States.  Donovan Leach, 17, is from England.  Aleksandra "Alex" Ivanova, 16, is from Russia.  Those are the three main characters.  I'm also trying to work in a 14-year-old computer genius from Japan, Kitsune Yamamoto.  I'm trying to decide whether he will be in the hero party, or another person, a native Zircan Elf, will be with the heroes.

Trouble is, Zircalon's already inhabited -- and the current inhabitants aren't too thrilled with the Earthlings' arrival.

Backstory (or what I have of it):

The pressure to succeed in Rebecca's family is stultifying.  With both parents being successful in astronomy and science, both Rebecca and her younger brother, Rickey, were pushed to succeed.  Rebecca's mother, Kristyn, in particular, is a perfectionist.  But Kristyn's past is also quite intriguing.  Before she married Rick DeLorean, a decorated U.S. astronaut, she claimed she could talk to aliens and was a famed monster hunter.  Will Kristyn's past affect Rebecca?

Donovan grew up in your average, everyday family.  A former soccer player, Donovan lost his parents when he was quite young, so he was raised by an aunt named Claudine, who was maid in the household of a wealthy person (I haven't named this person yet).  Claudine eventually sends Donovan to a boarding school, where he hears about the astronaut program.

Alex always knew that she was different from the other girls in her small, backward Russian village.  Alex preferred video games (her favorites were Asteroids and Space Invaders) to socializing with the other girls, and spent her days dreaming of becoming an astronaut.  Her family is dead-set against her becoming an astronaut (or in Russian, cosmonaut), but she persists.

*shameless bump* :p

I didn't feel like doing a new thread on this.

Character sets: Done (some tweaking needed)
Caterpillar system: Done (some tweaking needed, name of originator in credits)
Face sets:  Done, a couple more to add here and there
Storyline: about half done, some holes in it
Maps: 80% done, a couple more remain
Battlechars:  Done (Saikar and Blood Jody)
Monsters:  Mostly done, have a few more left to upload and configure.

Need an idea for a minigame, although I do have a sidequest -- not much of one. LOL

First demo: projects.lateralshift.net/voyagetozircalon/files/voyagetozircalon.zip

I have a headache and am leaving in the AM, so enjoy and don't forget to tell me how much it sucks!  LOL

:p

That link didn't work for me.
I believe it is http://projects.lateralshift.net/voyagetozircalon/files/Voyage%20to%20Zircalon.zip since there are spaces in the zip files name.

I only played a small amount, since it kept closing on me due to differant RTP names for files I think..

..Allen walked into a corner in a cave.. and got trapped due to the caterpillar system.... o_o;

The only thing that really bothered me though were the mountain tiles.

Whoaboy. We are going to have to go over some basic code issues sometime.  :)

The caterpillar system trapped me a bunch too, and the chests could be opened infinite times, and the mosters gave sad amounts of EXP, and I had the darndest time getting out of towns, and your bank system seems not to work, I think.

On the upside you an infintily more flashy intro then I do and the scene where the party flashed their IDs was cool.
