Debate: Mods and their act
« on: January 05, 2005, 12:56:58 PM »
First, the reason of writing:
Because I became a moderator on Pixeltendo. And because SFDT members are retards.

Now, an introduction.

Mods are an example for their board. If a moderator disbehaves others may follow them. That's how mods are assigned.

But the choice also depends on the site's behaviour. For example, if you are very strict in friendly forums, you will be demonised. But the thing is, most people also see a downside on mods who don't act strict in forums where everybody practically is each others friend.

So, the subject:

Moderators should act with a strong ruling system, even on forums where people act friendly towards each other.

Now, for the first time, I will give you my opinion. I agree with this, because when moderators are being loose the forum can eventually become an anarchy.

I agree with Gary. I think the only moderators ( to my knowledge) GhostClown, and Red Giant are very good ones. The rest? I have not seen them in quite a while! But Moderators should act fair to the forums and share their "Power" Equally.

Some of our mods aren't active anymore at all and it would suprise me if they'd come back.
But Red and Ghostclown aren't the only good ones.
What about Carmen, FFL, SMB (But I havn't seen him in awhile either.) and charaman (But I'm not sure when I saw him last time)?
Those are good ones too. Aren't they?
I think all active mods act's perfectly, nothing's wrong with them.

But Grandagora did come back awhile ago though.

*Coughs up donut*. I got in his top two!

Erherm.

From what I've seen, mods rarely behave badly.
What do you mean by a strong ruling system? We already have rules that anyone can read, and whenever someone does break the rules, regular members and mods alike jump in to inform them.

You need friendly and nasty mods. Ghostclown instantly demands respect and Red has more of a laugh. Carmen is more relaxed so we have a nice mixture of brilliant mods.

Even on really stupid threads they wait a while for other's responses before locking it, while a thread never gets too out of hand without them stepping in.

I agree with all of this, but why bring it up now, Gary? Our mod situation has been fairly stable for the past while.

Because I needed a subject to debate on, and since SFDT members are highly unintelligent, I thought, why not bring the topic here?

And with a strong ruling system I mean being hard, but justifull. Like, when a flamewar starts, a mod doesn't say "I hope that this doesn't end with a flame war" but start with strong measurements, like saying "if this continue I'll have to warn somebody" or something like that. Or, like on Pixeltendo, there is a warning system. If anyone disbehaves, he / she gets a warning, even if the action of that one wasn't strong.

SFDT
Stupid Former Dumbasses Team.
And the mods are fine. We have enough, there good and they know the rules. And for letting ppl to follow the rules we don't even need mods as anyone says something when it goes wrong.

Mods should rule with a strict enforcement of the rules, but there's not much need for that on charas. I dont like the current mods, or admins for that matter. (cept GC and maybe Kijuki... no offence, except towards Darkfox)

As you know Gary, my actions spoke for themselves.

And I agree, good moderators like RedGiant and GC are strict and do have attitude.
