What's cool about where you live?
« on: March 02, 2005, 04:02:38 PM »
We come from all over the world, so what's great about where you live?

I live in a little known town called Tonbridge, in England. The coolest part about is the castle, which is pretty much next to the high street. It's really old and alot has been destroyed but there's still loads left and whenever there's fireworks or parades they usually involve the castle. There's also a river that runs through Tonbridge, and I used to go rowing on there quite a bit. The river also flows by the castle so that's cool. Err... Well the weather is interesting. It's a phonomenon- You look up at the sky and It's always grey! it's hardly ever cold enough for snow, but hardly ever warm enough to go outside without a coat. Boo hoo. Finally, this is where Kelly Holmes (You know, the Olympic runner) was born and she lives near here. There was a whole load of hype when she won the 800 and 1500m races and there was a parade through the high street and such.

Anyway, what's cool about where you live?

Cīmon Grandy, donīt do that to our beloved country.
Although Brazil obviously have itīs problems and stuff, it has unique feats...
1) No natural disasters. So, no-one dies for earthquakes, tornados, tsunamis and that stuff. Some die of hunger, but itīs not a massive killing...
2) Huge and nonending culture diversification.
3) Water all over.
4) the best feat: THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMEN IN THE WHOLE FRICKIN WORLD! Now that I enjoy...
5) São Paulo: itīs not the city I live, but I work and study here. Itīs the 3rd hugest city in the world and, separated from Brazil, Itīs economy would be the same as Switzerlandīs. Itīs Brazilīs economy center, entertainment center, culture center...I love this place.
Thereīs more I guess, but I have to work...I hate it, but i do...hehehe

We in Zaandam have the "Zaanse Schans", a place where you can see  windmills and one of the first Albert Heijn stores. Nothing much, but you can also see how they make "klompen" and cheese and such.

 MY FELLOW! *hugs almeidaboo*

Yup, our country is a big and nice country, but everyone thinks here is just a giant forest, all because that DAMN episode of the Simpsons, when they come to Brazil, and all around here was snakes and violence, and trees and MONKEYS, we dont have monkeys here! They're even disappearing... poor, poor monkeys...

Hmm. I want to visit Brazil some time.
Oh, and you're not alone with that Simpsons thing. There's been loads of episodes where they've taken the mick out of the Brits, Albania, France, etc. I admit when I think of Brazil I think of Rainforests, but not because of the Simpsons!

To Grandy: Well it's actually quite rare to have a castle near you. And I think Rainforests are way cooler.

To MSlash: We've been getting the first proper snow we've had in years here and It's really cool. Like I said before, It hardly ever snows here.

Uhm, you seem to be about a millenium out of date.

A funny thing about that simpsons episode is that it portrayed Brazil like that on purpose.
Apparantely, some important person (I forget who exactly) from Brazil complained that, in a vague reference on an earlier episode, "The Simpsons" treated Brazil like it was a jungle overrun by monkeys.
Being the witty people that they are, they purposely made an episode about brazil all jungly and mokeyey just to piss the guy off.

The "Important person" was our president...

I know I'm a millenium out of date, but raimforest are pretty rare here too, (I know I said we have a lot, but it still rare :P )
